As the leader announced his latest project, a Cypher that would lead to 'Where Nothing Fades,' I couldn't help but frown. I had heard of that place in my travels; the place where Nobodies who faded went. I tried not to think of it much after hearing about it. Something about a place where nothing that ceased to be resided gave me the chills, even if I knew I could end up there someday.
"Why?" I asked. "Why create a device that would take you to such a place?"
The Leader looked at me with an unreadable expression. "That shouldn't matter to you, Rexikat," he said with a smirk. "I'm giving you a mission that directly complies with your own wishes. Hunting down some lesser nobodies should be an easy task for you, as well as enjoyable."
I sat back in my seat and frowned. Not only had he handily escaped my question, but he'd actually made a good point. "Enjoyable to a certain degree," I muttered, refusing to let him have the last word. "Crushing bugs only amuses the cat for a few moments, until something bigger and better comes along."
"Then make a game out of it," snapped the Leader, "it doesn't matter to me how much you enjoy it, as long as you fulfill the requirements of your mission."
I sighed. I would have rather known the reason for this all, but...I could always ask RaXi or Triskix later. "Very well," I complied. "But I go solo."
"Fine," growled the Leader, "let Triskix organize the whole thing when he comes to. As long as you all fulfill your missions--"
"--you really could care less what happens, we get it," cut in RaXi. "It's always about following orders, isn't it."
The Leader glared at her, and she glared right back, but in the end, he simply looked away. "Does anyone else have any questions?" he asked.
I had said what I needed to; the rest was all action. I sat and waited for someone else to speak.
