Yea, the stereotypical role of women in Anime, (as well as most media formats), has drastically changed. Female main roles are becoming the norm lately and that's a great thing.
I feel like female characters general have more depth and are actually more believable than the most males. Loved every bit of this article.
Wow! This is an amazing article, thanks for posting it. I am writing a manga/anime myself and this made me think about the character(s) more and what they would fall into! Turns out I think I have one from every catagory I really enjoyed it!-amyrasuzuki
This was pretty good, even if it is a little old. I'm definately not a shojou anime fan at all, but I never figured that some of my favorites (like Fullmetal Alchemist and Slayers) could have characters fall under the shojou stereotypes. *thumbs up*
i agree with you, i am one of those otaku girls and i love the role ryoko you know what it takes a lot to be tomboyish and still be aww girlie. we rule in the anime world and i am also for the moe maids also , i say its whatever u are into. i dont think we should be sterotyped in just likin shojo even though i love it but i am a mecha chick til domo gives up his gundam lol-animedreamer
Wow. This article is excellent. It is very well-written, and makes a lot of good points. I personally thought it was a wonderful article, very eloquently written. Great work, Cassie-senpai ^_^

I enjoyed this writing. I know you only really touched the surface of the iceberg, but what you had was enjoyable.
Never much liked Fushigi Yugi for the reasons you described, haha. All that chick does is EAT. At least there's a gay guy in the mix, so she doesn't have everyone lusting after her, haha.
I'll take that as a compliment ^_^ I should probably go through the paper and rewite and re-edit peices, but... time constraints, you know? But yeah, I'm glad my non-fiction skills have increased a lot. Having an excellent editor friend helps. She never went over this older piece.
Now I know you said not to judge your writing 'cause this is pretty old . . . but I will say that your writing has certainly gotten loads better since then with your new stuff. And seriously, I mean that in the nicest way possible.
Definitely great info, though, Cassie. I think a lot of people'll be able to really feel for this one. And it's totally true, when you actually think about the number of women in anime who sit in extremely high positions of authority and stuff (not even as just a "Sorcerer" type like in He-Man, but actual ruling/commanding authority), it's pretty high up there. Granted they get balanced out by the extremely ditzy/klutzy moe girls, so . . .
. . . haha, I can't think for the life of me how to make a strong point to finish this off. Um . . . I agree with what you said, and I'm happy about that.
