I've had that happen loads of times. Usually if you are with a manager they can just break the hundred from the safe and give you the broken hundred. Then you give the customer the change. Thank you for commenting!
I never had issues exactly like that when I worked in retail. Though there was this one time when I was part of the opening shift, and the first customer handed me a $100 bill, and I didn't have enough cash in the register to make change. I forget how it was resolved. It was a long time ago.
