    @Phantom of Neph:

    Well, as a percussionist, if I'm listening to cool music and I'm holding a tool of some sort like tongs, then I have to make some noise. Plain and simple.

    I don't know. I don't own tongs or a dishwasher.

    You know, like when I'm emptying the dishwasher while listening to music and there's a great beat. I just have to play along with the instruments of the kitchen!

    I only use tongs to play with/make noise with.

    Food? Not really.

    @Darkarax:

    My argument was not for a buffet, yet for a casual snack bar posted at a get-together. However, I shall expand on your subject before going back to my own.

    It is not necisarily true, Darkarax, yet yes. Usually, people re-use their dishes.

    Most people use the same utensils throughout the whole meal. Yet did you know that the re-use of a plate is not allowed? They have a stack of plates at every island, and some dishes (possibly including plates) around the outside.
    On the rare occasion, I've even seen a plastic or metal (maybe alloy, yet I don't think that's important) container with silverware divided into their respective slots. In this case, it is a choice to grab new silverware, unless posted otherwise.

    On the subject of refreshments, We are allowed grabing bread or an apple with our bare hands, yet not a cheese cube that stands alone at the top of a pyramid, or the last cracker waiting to be taken. No, not even the rotten cherry that the provider failed to notice. Why is it up to the position of the utensils to decide what we can and cannot pick up without the help of said provided utensils? I think I know my hands well enough to decide on my own weather I can successfully finger away a carrot from the pile or not.

    @Darkarax:

    I agree with you both. However, most buffets have clean silverware at the end of the buffets along with plates and bowls and anything else one might need to get food to eat.

    Just a thought...

    You do make a good point about sanitation. Buffets all have communal tongs, and unfortunately there are people out there who don't always wash their hands after using the restroom. Plus we don't know how often those tongs are sanitized.

    Still, a fork or spoon doesn't always do the job of moving food very well. Plus if you end up going back for seconds, you end up spreading your own germs. I mean that utensil has probably been in your own mouth, and that's a little worse.
