"To say that the Mock Turtle's name is a pun on the name of the soup is incomplete. The illustration of the Mock Turtle specifically depicts it as a collection of creatures that make up the ingredients of mock turtle soup; they are not random. The pun is not only of the name, but of the nature of the soup itself.
Traditionally, mock turtle soup takes the parts of a calf that were not frequently used and often discarded, including the head, hooves, and tail; and uses the non-muscular meat to imitate turtle meat. Tenniel's illustration shows the Mock Turtle with the body of a turtle, and the head, hooves, and tail of a calf. The complicated pun, then, is both word-play and picture-play."
There are lots of complicated parodies like this throughout the story. |D
Well in the book the caterpillar smoked a hookah while sitting on a mushroom too! XD There were a lot of underlying themes and parodies of stuff. Take the Mock Turtle, for example. One big parody right there. XDD
Indeed, I have read all of the Alice in Wonderland books =P they were some light reading I did while back in elementary school.
*puts boots on and kicks the Mad Hatter* darn... I ruined my boots....
The Disney version and this version are actually very different. The newest one that has come out was based on the actual books of Alice in Wonderland while the Disney one was changed and made more light for view of children. I honestly dislike the books beyond reason and prefer to keep to the childish wonder of Disney. And if the mad hatter come sin your dreams I'm gonna kick his arse and make him pay.
