Well in Gold, Silver, and Crystal they went to that huge patch of grass on that route between Saffron City and Lavender Town. I assume that's where they went in the remakes as well.
God I haven't played in ages. All I did was look at a map and think to myself, "God, when did I go there again? How did I get to Vermillion again?" Well, you know how I am with getting things wrong...
Yeah, I think the more you have, the creepier you can make it. I was actually thinking about putting a dubstep remix I like there too, but I thought the orchestral version(s) definitely captured the creepiness much better. Also, that reversed version legitimately gave me a stomach ache. I don't think I'm ever going to touch that play button again.
The Radio Tower just really disturbed me. It seemed so against what Lavender Town was like in the original games. They were all so dedicated and religious. How in three years could they have changed their minds and thought it was okay to just tear it all up?

Incidentally, you did get the order of events in the games a bit wrong. Lavender Town comes after Vermilion City, but you have to go back through Cerulean and go through that blasted Rock Tunnel to get there (because of that *bleep* Snorlax). And even then you can't calm the ghost of the Marowak in the tower until you beat Giovanni in the Game Corner and get the Sliph Scope. Just sayn'.
Anyway, I too have thought that the original Lavender Town theme was rather creepy, though not the creepiest music I've heard. But I do agree that the FireRed/LeafGreen version is creepier because they were able to do more with the music. Still, I think the best versions of the Lavender Town theme are those two fan remixes (both the regular and the reversed).
Also, I do agree with you that turning the old Pokemon Tower into a radio station was pretty messed up. Sure they said they moved the cemetery, but it still seems like inviting bad karma (especially if they lied about moving the actual bodies like they did in Poltergeist).

@Darkarax:
It's definitely a bit more fitting for them...

All the Cubone, meanwhile, ended up in the Rock Tunnel. Though maybe they like it better there.

Pretty much.
And to add insult to injury, all those Ghost Pokemon were left homeless.

I don't know, maybe in that three year time span big business somehow took over or something.
