Thinking about it now it does sound easier than just trying to win coins at the slots. With that game I wouldn't have to bankrupt myself in the game just buying the coins to get Porygon.
Still, they should have a few slot machines. A casino without slot machines is just wrong. Not that I'm a fan of casinos, mind you.
I am so much better at Voltorb flip than I am at regular Minesweeper. I actually kinda like that you gain coins based on skill as opposed to luck. It actually didn't take me too long to make enough money for an Eevee in Celadon. But I wish they'd thrown in a slot machine or two for old times sake...
The Japanese version had them...But us poor North Americans were given the boot because gambling is bad for kids and it took them four generations to figure that out....
Yeah, the DS sound quality really is amazing, but I think they took out some of the energy of the original.
I don't think I could ever see high-stakes poker in the anime, but I see exactly what you mean, and that would be really fun XD

They didn't have the slots in HeartGold and SoulSilver? How could you have a casino without slot machines?
I was actually a little impressed by the HeartGold/SoulSilver version if this theme. That DS has some good sound quality. Still, I'm not sure if I like it over the original.
As for the fan remix, I was a little surprised by the beginning. I didn't expect it to start out that mellow. But yeah, it was very techno. This is the kind of them I would expect to be played during a montage of a high-stakes roulette/poker game taking place at the Game Corner (though I have no clue how they could mix that sort of plot into the anime).

Ash and his friends watch as their new ally bets everything to win a high stakes poker game! Film at eleven! (Yeah, not gonna happen.)
Anyway, I did get on Bulbapedia to read about that Voltorb flip game. It actually sounds interesting, and I have played Minesweeper a few times.
