mmm I don't thinkHoom is that short....Hon is taller than her but not that much haha i think it would be 5..somthing...anyway I know its late haha X/
Hmmm, that's weird. Here's the address to the blog then:
www.docandry.edublogs.org
But, even if I get a pic, wouldn't I still have to hold down the strings with my left hand? I dunno, you know better than me! ^^;
When we're practicing, the guy in my band who plays the baritone sits right behind me. So I can hear all his parts! They're really cool most of the time :D He's also really funny.
It's 9:29 here, and I like to get to bed early, so g'night!
Yeah they make us look like that. we cant hav any fun. yeah we have plumes. I think every band does. ours our feathers right now, but we just got new uniforms. i so i dont know what the new ones look like yet. ill get to see them this week sometime.
Sorry bout ur mom. lol my lil bro is tonedef too. its hard to believe he plays drums. well ok i guess he can. id hate to hav to listen to him play a note. I do hate cheerleaders! With all my black little heart! they hate us, and get mad when u make fun of them cause they r dumb. they say we r just following sterotypes, but its true. most of them r mean, blonde, stupid, and whores! and popular. Idk how that works. *rolls eyes*
U can get nylon strings 4 a guitar. they shouldnt hurt ur fingers. plus u should use a pic. then it def. wont hurt. i had trouble hitting strings one at a time and so i bought a pac of cheap pics for like $1. they really help. and yeah keyboard isnt really my thing. im not very smooth.
Thats cool how u got to learn how to play a dif. instrument that u like. Lol banjo sounds like fun! i would play that! and i dont think i buzz well either. i kinda just blow? i never really got buzzing.
That's cool that you come from a musically inclined family! I kinda am too. My dad used to play drums but not actually was in a band. My mom's completely tone-deaf, and it breaks my eardrums to hear her sing to the radio! My little brother plays trumpet at my old middle school, one of my cousins plays the piano, another plays the flute and tenor sax, but that's about it. My sister's a cheerleader D:< I hate cheerleaders with a passion. What about you?
I could never teach myself to play any piano-related thing. I guess my fingers aren't adapted to it. Guitar strings hurt my fingers. And I completely fail at buzzing, so that knocks out brass. But I did attend a summer band activity that people called "playtime". It's where I go to my cousin's school in New Orleans and I can choose any of their instruments they have there and learn on it for a week! I chose the alto sax because I've always wanted to play it, and also the violin was already taken. :( They also had a banjo! It sounds awesome!
Yeah, trilling is really cool! In most cases, it's easy 'cuz it's just two notes that are a half- or whole-step apart. Considering what I said about the clarinet, it'd be really easy because two consecutive notes' fingerings are almost completely the same. Like for example, once (when we were playing Cirque du Soleil: Incantation) I had to trill from a G to a F#. The G is fingered with my left hand: thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers down. F# is all that WITH the middle finger of the right hand. So I just put down and pick up my middle finger on my right hand to do the trill. I can vibrate my fingers quickly (it's one of my few talents lol~) so that trill was fun to do! One time though (for Geometric Dances: Quadratic Permutations) I had a trill from a B to a D! It sounded creepy! Haha I love that song though. Which reminds me!
We don't technically have a band website, but Doc has a blog. Check it out! Here's the link. Here's the highlights if you're in a hurry:
The home picture you see is us at the annual Dutchtown Marching Festival last year. We did a hard selection, Amazonian Rainforest, and (I'm making excuses here) so we got a 2 rating :(
Scroll down a bit and you see a man. It's really creepy and horrific, but that's Doc. Lemme tell you, that thing looks 90% like Doc. It's creepy. Press PLAY and you can hear his voice, lol. Just adds to the scare factor. I can't stop looking at it. >.>
Yes, he IS bald. He always makes jokes about it and has a shirt that says something like "Bald Men are Hot" or something. XD
Something else about him, he thinks French Horns are ALMIGHTY. He's obsessed! He plays his own in the state symphony too! Which instrument does your band director like best?
At the top it says "Music Downloads". You can click that link to listen to Amazonian Rainforest! It's cool music :D
On the right hand sidebar Doc put a link to his Flikr account with pictures from band camp over the summer. You should see them! We had different themed days. The best one, Friday, was Superhero Day. Someone had an inflatable clown costume on, and two people were Teletubbies-- Dipsy and Lala. It's funny, our biggest trumpet GUY was Lala.
We just got a freshie timpani player -- people call him Drew Brees. He's sooo short! He's adorable!
The link worked. Y'all look like you mean business! I like your formals! Do you have plumes too? We do!
thats not weird at all. for some reason when i first meet someone on here i always asume they r a guy. thats more weird than thinking i am 12 based on Vara's age.
Well on my dads side drums are a family thing and my mom and her brother played trumpet. so i hav always been into drums and trumpets. i was gonna try the trumpet first, but what happened was there were no baritone players and our elementary band teacher practically begged us all to try it out. me being the person i am tried out so i wouldnt feel bad. there were 4 of us. unfortunatly everyone else quit so i was left alone to stick it out. that is how i ended up with the thing. to be honest im kinda sick of it and hav been trying out different things. my grandpap gave me his old guitar and my aunt gave me my cousins old keyboard so ive been teaching myself how to play those. its fun!
That does make sense. i dont think i could play it though. i couldnt even play the recorder. We dont hav to trill, but i do get ur point. how do u guys do that though? i think its really cool!
And yeah that would be cool! http://www.kiskiareaband.com/ Let me know if this link works ive never done one before.
I'd say that you can't imagine how delerious I'm feeling right now, but I think you can. X33 I'm such a band nerd.
So you're the same age as me, I presume? This (lol for some reason) changes how I talk to you, I guess. It's weird, usually I make it up in my mind that a person's age is the same as their characters' age. So for some strange reason I pictured you a kid Vara's age. Kinda creepy, I know. ^^;
That's such a coincedence that we say the same thing about baritones and tubas! They really do look so much alike.
I also say that a piccolo is a baby flute and an oboe is a baby clarinet! :D
That reminds me.... One time someone asked what a flugelhorn looked like, and my band director (we just call him Doc, lol.) says, "It looks like a trumpet on steroids."
Lol!
Your teacher guilt tripped you into playing bari? Lol how'd she/he do that? What was the reason?
As for the clarinet, when I started band in 5th grade our band director (oh yeah, Doc teaches both at my highschool AND my old middleschool!) let us try different instruments and he'd say which one we were best at. I so dearly wanted to play the flute, but it turns out I can't make any sound on it EVER. The next instrument I tried was the clarinet. Doc said I was a natural at it, so thus I became a clarinettist :D
I'm fairly certain that if I had tried saxomophone (haha) first I would be a saxist now instead of a clarinettist, 'cuz they're played the same way.
The best example I can think of about the fingering question you had was this: Japanese people think that speaking and writing Jap is really easy. I think that speaking and writing English is super easy. Mexicans think that Spanish is the easiest language. It's all about your native tounge, or fingerings. I've been taught all my life, well actually career, the clarinet fingerings, not bari fingerings. Baritone is like a foreign language to me.
I say clarinet's easy 'cuz if I'm ascending the Eb scale, for example, I just start with all fingers down and subtract fingers to go up to Eb (my F) and add fingers to descend the scale. Also, there's one note for each fingering, and vice-versa.
For baritone, open could mean a C or G (actually that's trumpet fingerings but you catch my drift). Also, I think it would be hard to move through notes quickly with only 3 fingers to move, in infinite combinations. Like if for some strange, odd reason you had a trill from a 1 and 3 to a 2, that would be practically impossible!
(lol sorry for the long post. reply!)
Is it okay if I browse your band website? I can show you ours! We can trade! *w*
Im having fun too! i like finding other band pl on here and talking to them.
Well last year we went to Nationals in Indinapolis, and BOA reginals in Towsand, Maryland. this year we arnt doing anything big. just a smaller reginal in Ohio. Next yr were going to Nationals again. But anyway we didnt win at the BOA, but we made finals! And for Nationals we made 2nd in our class but only made it to Semi Finals. Nobody from our class made it. i heard it was fixed. Almost all the bands that made it to finals were from Indiana. Lol baby tuba! thats funny cause i say that all the time! i would have played trumpit but my music teacher guilt triped me into baritone. how did u end up playing clarinet? i cant imagine remembering all those fingerings! lol i only hav 3 cause i would forget notes if i had anymore.
Man, just talking about band is making me really happy! :D
You play the baritone? That's cool! I always say that a baritone is like a baby tuba haha!
I'm in the Saint Michael the Archangel's marching band. Last year we went to the district and state festivals for concert band and got all Superiors! :D
Time for you to brag! What acheivements did y'all get?
Cool. I play the baritone. and ive been in it since 5th grade and its my 7th year too! what band r u in? do u do marching band? cause im in the Kiski Area Marching Band. yeah i love band! i really like music so being able to play in the band is great!
she's 12. and yeah i got tall fast. i was 5'6" then and im only like 5'8" now. i miss being taller than the boys. they used to hate that, but now they all tower over me. o well.
and no prob. i was affraid i did miss it but then i saw u posted it the other day. ive just been so busy. i had band all weekend. and today was my only day off.
hmmm guess i never thought about it? i totally forgot how tall she was O_o hmmm how about i make her a foot shorter? now shes 4'7" can i do that? o well. yeah she is a little girl after all. i guess i never thought about how weird that would be. I mean i was like 5'6 when i was her age. sorry
;A; I didn't mean to be mean! Did you think that??
I just love short people so much. The reason I was laughing is that if she just stood on the ground, you wouldn't see her head in the picture, and it would be funny.
