Isn't that kind of like saying "If Bill Gates got into a terrible accident, we shouldn't help him because, he's rich and take care of it himself. If we gave him more money, he wouldn't know what to do with it."
yeah, he could easily pay for his medical bills and a new car and what-have-you, but... it's more about the GESTURE than the actual help, right?

Yeah, I think that's exactly right. Even those of those who are the most well off need some sort of uplift in trying times.
The people who wrote this article wouldn't be so apt to discourage help if it was their problem.
