Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: Otherworld Invasion

Chapter 9: Twisted Sister

Within the alien ship, Leo was about to have what would be the toughest duel of his life, a duel against his sister. It wasn’t really his sister though. It was an evil alien intelligence that was using his sister as a puppet. If he lost, there was no chance of getting Luna back.

“Don’t worry too much about losing Leo.” The possessed Luna said. “If you do lose, I’ll simply convert you into one of my mind controlled drones. I may even use you as an avatar, like I am with your sister.”

“Yeah, like I’d enjoy that!” Leo said sarcastically.

“Oh yes, I forgot. You humans are so fond of your freewill.” Luna replied coldly, still with an unnatural smile on her face. “Now, what is that human expression? Oh yes, ladies first.”

As Luna drew her first card, Leo thought to himself that the thing that controlled is sister was in no way a lady.

“Hmm… I think I’ll just set one monster on the field and end my turn.” Luna announced as she placed a card in her duel disk.

Leo looked at his hand. He had two Morptronic monsters, a couple of Spell cards that weren’t particularly useful at the moment, and a Trap called Power-Up Adapter. It wasn’t a bad hand to start with, but Leo was a bit worried about the monster Luna set on the field. There had to be a reason why she set it facedown. It probably had some kind of flip effect monster, one with a particularly nasty effect.

‘She’s just trying to psych me out… I mean he is… whatever!’ Leo thought to himself as he prepared to draw. “My move!” He announced.

Leo looked at the card he drew. It was a Trap called Respect Synchron. Leo remembered how he and Luna used it against the Dark Signer, Demak, to rescue Luna’s ace monster, Ancient Fairy Dragon. Actually, it was mostly Luna who used the card. All he did was keep Demak busy until she returned from the Duel Monster Spirit Realm. As powerful as Respect Synchron was though, it wasn’t a card that could help him at the moment. So, he decided to keep it in his hand for the time being.

“I summon Morphtronic Radion in Attack Mode!” Leo announced as he finally placed a card in his duel disk.

A large portable radio appeared in front of Leo and transformed into a robotic warrior holding a cable with a large weight on the end.

“While Radion is on the field in Attack Mode, all face-up Morphtronics I have gain 800 ATK points. So Radion’s own ATK becomes 1800!” Leo explained. Luna, or rather the thing possessing her, seemed unimpressed.

“Now Radion, attack Luna’s facedown monster!” Leo commanded. “Cable Mace!”

Radion swung its weapon and hit the large card on Luna’s field. As it shattered, an odd looking plant-like monster briefly appeared and screeched as it disappeared. Leo recognized the monster as Grass Phantom, which Leo was somewhat familiar with. Its only effect was that it gained 500 ATK for every other Grass Phantom in the Graveyard.

“My, I’m impressed.” Luna said in a cold tone of voice that seemed to have a hint of smugness. “I was expecting you to end your turn, afraid that the monster I had was something that would destroy your monster or damage your life points.”

“I set one card facedown and end my turn!” Leo declared as he placed Power-Up Adapter in his duel disk.

“I guess it’s my turn than.” Luna replied as she drew another card.

“First I summon Shadow Pixie in Attack Mode.” Luna coldly declared as she placed a new card in her duel disk.

A human sized fairy appeared in front of Luna. The fairy had purple skin, pointed ears, and long hair that was an even darker shade of purple. Her eyes were completely green, almost insect like. On its back was a pair of insect wings that glowed bright lavender. The sinister looking fairy wore a lavender dress that seemed to be made out of some kind of unearthly fabric, and on its face was a mischievous, almost seductive smile.

“Now the effect of my Shadow Pixie activates.” Luna announced. “When my pixie is normal summoned, I can take control of one monster my opponent controls. Let’s see… I guess my only option is to take control of your Radion.”

Shadow Pixie than blew a kiss to Radion that contained a purple glowing powder. The powder caused the robot warrior to jump to Luna’s side of the field. Leo was afraid of what was going to come next.

“Now I shall Tune your level four Radion into my level three Shadow Pixie!” Luna declared. Shadow Pixie turned into three rings of green light that surrounded Radion, turning it into four balls of white light. As this happened, Luna chanted: “The holy light of protection, shine now and become eternal life! Synchro Summon! A regale birth! Ancient Fairy Dragon!”

Appearing on Luna’s side of the field was a monster that Leo was all too familiar with. It was a large dragon with light-blue skin and a main of flowing green hair. It had a long serpent like body with two long, slender arms being the only limbs on its body. The dragon was decorated with gold jewelry adorned with red gemstones, and on its back were two magnificent fairy wings. It was none other than Luna’s ace card, Ancient Fairy Dragon. Leo noticed something different about the dragon though. Its normally red eyes were a dark purple, and it didn’t roar like it usually did when it appeared on the field. Leo began to wonder if the thing that was controlling Luna, this Grand High Intellect, was also somehow controlling the mind of Luna’s dragon as well.

“So, did I perform your sister’s Synchro chant well enough?” The possessed Luna asked. Leo only responded with a glare. “Oh don’t worry, Ancient Fairy Dragon is in Defense Mode. Since I used Shadow Pixie to summon the dragon, it would cost 1000 life points to attack with it.”

Leo felt a little relived, although now there was a new problem. Ancient Fairy Dragon had 3000 DEF points, which made it a very effective wall.

“One more thing.” Luna continued. “Shadow Pixie has one more effect. Because I used the monster I took control of with Shadow Pixie as Synchro Material, you take damage equal to half the monster’s original ATK.”

A ghostly version of Shadow Pixie appeared in front of Ancient Fairy Dragon, raised its arms towards Leo, and shot him with bolts of purple lightning. Leo felt an intense pain surge through him as his life points dropped from 4000 to 3500. When it was over, the purple fairy disappeared.

“Oh, did I forget to mention that both players take real damage in this game?” Luna asked in a cold tone.

Suddenly a terrible question came to Leo’s mind, one he had to ask.

“Wait… does that mean that Luna takes real damage too?” Leo asked. He was a bit frightened.

“Oh yes.” Leo’s possessed sibling coldly replied. “But if makes you feel any better, I won’t feel a thing.”

Leo clenched his right fist in rage. It wasn’t fair that Luna would get hurt, while the Grand High Intellect wouldn’t feel any of the pain.

“Now, I believe it’s still my turn.” Luna continued. “Now I use the effect of Ancient Fairy Dragon to Special Summon Dream Sprite in Defense Mode.”

A fairy with blue skin and red hair appeared next to Ancient Fairy Dragon in a crouched position.

“Finally, I set one card face down. That ends my turn.” Luna announced.

Leo drew his next card as he declared his turn. The card he drew was Double Tool C&D. Leo reviewed his other cards, which were Morphtronic Boomboxen, Swords of Revealing Light, Morphtronic Cord, and Respect Synchron. Leo thought back to his first turn, and realized that he could of used Boomboxen to attack Grass Phantom and then hit Luna directly. The reason he used Radion was because he was afraid that the monster Luna had set had high DEF. Therefore if Radion’s attack failed, he would’ve taken less damage.

It wasn’t the time to look back on his mistakes though. Leo realized that he had to deal with the problem at hand. Leo knew that even equipped with C&D, Boomboxen couldn’t take out Ancient Fairy Dragon. He could take out Dream Sprite though. Leo didn’t know anything about Dream Sprite’s effect, but he figured that it couldn’t be too big of a threat.

“First I summon Morphtronic Boomboxen in Attack Mode!” Leo declared.

A large red boom box appeared in front of Leo and transformed into a robot.

“Next I equip Boomboxen with Double Tool C&D!” Leo declared as he place his newly drawn card in his duel disk. “Now Boomboxen gains 1000 ATK whenever it’s my turn!”

Boomboxen’s right hand was replaced with a circular saw attachment while its left hand was replaced with a large drill. The robot’s 1200 ATK rose to 2200.

“Now, Boomboxen attack Dream Sprite!” Leo commanded. “Sonic Slice!”

The boom box robot lunged at the blue skinned fairy with its saw running. Suddenly Luna began to chuckle.

“Foolish boy.” Luna coldly taunted. “If my Dream Sprite is attacked, I can use its effect to redirect the attacker to another monster I control. And of course, the only other monster I have is Ancient Fairy Dragon.”

Leo began to panic as a barrier of red energy began to form around the Dream Sprite. The barrier deflected the oncoming Boomboxen to Luna’s loyal dragon. The robot’s circular saw attachment did nothing to the blue dragon. The strike reduced Leo’s life points from 3500 to 2700.

“I… I end my turn.” Leo reluctantly declared. He knew that he screwed up, and bad. What was worse was that Boomboxen’s ATK dropped back to its original 1200, making it more vulnerable.

“Well, I guess it’s my move than.” Luna coldly replied. “First I shall release my Dream Sprite to summon Mars Fly Trap in Attack Mode.”

The Blue Fairy shattered into triangles of golden light. In its place grew a gigantic carnivorous plant, which must have stood twenty feet tall. Terror began to rise within Leo as he saw that the plant monster had 2800 ATK points.

“Now I will…” Luna began, causing Leo to freeze, but suddenly Luna finished by saying, “…end my turn.”

Leo was shocked. He couldn’t figure out why Luna didn’t attack. At first he though that the Grand High Intellect wasn’t as good a duelist as he claimed to be. Then another thought came to Leo. He thought that perhaps Luna was somehow fighting back against the evil alien. It was a slim hope, but it was enough for him to keep going. Leo drew another card as he declared his turn. Boomboxen’s ATK rose back to 2200.

A slight smile appeared on Leo’s face as he looked at the new card. It was Morphtronic Videon. Leo looked at his hand again. He had Morphtronic Cord. Leo knew that Videon gained 800 extra ATK for every card equipped to it. Still, it wouldn’t be enough to take out either Ancient Fairy Dragon, or Mars Fly Trap. Suddenly, Leo remembered the Trap that he laid on his first turn, and decided that now was the right time to activate it.

“First I summon Morphtronic Videon in Attack Mode!” Leo declared.

A large digital camera appeared next to Boomboxen and transformed in to a robot.

“Next I equip Videon with Morphtronic Cord!” Leo declared. “Thanks to its effect, Videon gains 800 ATK for every card equipped to it!”

A long black cord appeared on Videon’s back as its ATK rose to 1800.

“Now I activate my Trap, Power-Up Adapter!” Leo declared as he pressed a button on his duel disk. “I equip Power-Up Adapter to Videon, increasing its ATK to 2600. It can’t attack now, but I can add Videon’s attack to Boomboxen’s!”

The end of Video’s cord morphed into a white plug. The cord extended and plugged into Boomboxen’s back. Boomboxen’s ATK rose to 4800, making it strong enough to take out both of Luna’s monsters.

“Now Boomboxen, attack Mars Fly Trap!” Leo commanded. “Sonic Slice!”

The boom box robot began to charge at the giant plant, its circular saw raised for battle.

“Fool!” Luna shouted as her cold smile turned into an evil grin that was unnatural for Luna. “I activate my own Trap, Really Eternal Rest! Now all monsters with Equip cards are destroyed!”

Leo was once again shocked as both of his Morphtronic monsters exploded before his eyes. He had completely forgotten about the Trap that Luna had set a few turns ago.

“Pathetic child.” Luna said in a voice that was even colder than before and filled with a sinister amusement. “I know all about your strategy of using Equip cards, both from watching through my drones, and from scanning your sister’s mind. That’s why I had a special Trap waiting for when you’d power up all your monsters.”

Leo couldn’t believe what he just heard. The Grand High Intellect had figured out his strategy.

“Why did you think I didn’t attack Boomboxen with my Mars Fly Trap?” Luna asked. “I knew that Double Tool C&D would have destroyed my monster after it attacked.”

Leo’s blood ran cold. He knew that was exactly what would’ve happened. The Grand High Intellect had known all about Double Tool C&D’s other effect.

“Oh, I see.” Luna continued, the evil grin on her face widening a little more. “You thought that perhaps your sister had fought back against my control. You can forget that boy. Your dear sister is completely unconscious and unaware of what’s happening at this moment. Her body is mine do with as I please. You have no hope of saving her!”

Luna than began to laugh manically, but it was not a laugh that belonged to her. Leo had heard his sister laugh before and it sounded nothing like that. The laugh he was hearing belonged to the evil thing that was controlling her, and he hated it.

“Shut up!” Leo shouted, causing his possessed sister to stop laughing and raise an eyebrow. “I WILL save my sister! Even if it means I have to give up own life!”

“Hmph… I see.” Luna responded. “And just what are you going to do to save her?”

“I activate Swords of Revealing Light!” Leo declared.

Several swords made of white light rained down and formed a barrier in front of Luna’s monsters.

“I see.” Luna said coldly. “You’re going to stall for time. Fine by me. I want to toy with you a bit more. Especially after your amusing declaration of sibling love.”

“I end my turn!” Leo declared with a determined expression on his face. He knew that the real duel was about to begin.
