Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: Otherworld Invasion

Chapter 5: A Bitter Victory

Leo trembled a bit as he stared down Roxanne's Megarock Dragon. Just when Leo thought that he had the duel in the bag, Roxanne turned everything around.

"Magarock Dragon's original ATK is equal to the number of Rock monsters that were removed from the Graveyard to summon it!" Roxanne coldly explained. "I removed seven Rock monsters for the summoning, so Megarock Dragon's ATK is 4900!"

Leo suddenly realized that if Roxanne's dragon attacked Boomboxen, the damage he would receive would cost him the duel, and perhaps his free will.

"Megarock Dragon, attack Morphtronic Boomboxen!" Roxanne commanded. "Megarock Storm!"

Megarock Dragon pulled back its head and fired a barrage of sharp stones from its mouth. It looked like it was over. Than Leo remembered the Trap that he had prepared just in case.

"I activate a Trap!" Leo quickly announced. "Morphtransition! I switch Boomboxen to Defense Mode to negate your attack!"

Boomboxen quickly folded back into its red boom box form. At the last minute, an invisible barrier formed around Boomboxen, blocking the oncoming rocks. Leo had just barely saved himself.

"I end my turn!" Roxanne announced.

Leo looked at his hand. There wasn't too much to work with. He had three monsters; Morphtronic Clocken, Morphtronic Datatron, and Gadget Hauler. The third monster, Gadget Hauler, was a powerful monster, but there was no way to power it up enough to beat Megarock Dragon.

"My turn!" Leo announced as he drew his next card and prayed for a miracle.

Leo looked at the card he drew. It was a Spell card called Factory of 100 Machines, a card that could increase the ATK of a Machine-Type monster by 200 points times the number of Morphtronics he removed from the Graveyard. There was a problem though. There were only five Morphtronics in the Graveyard. Which meant that even if he used the card on Power Tool Dragon, the mechanical monster's ATK would only be 4300. Leo looked at the other cards in his and again and suddenly got an idea. Wether or not it would work depended on what Equip Spell he could pull out with Power Tool Dragon's effect.

"First I activate Power Tool Dragon's effect to add a random Equip Spell from my deck to my hand!" Leo announced.

Leo prayed that the card he pulled from his deck would be the card he needed. He looked at the card and smiled.

"Next I equip Power Tool Dragon with Power Pickaxe!" Leo announced.

The mechanical dragon's blue back-hoe claw transformed into an orange pickaxe.

"Now I activate the effect of Power Pickaxe!" Leo announced. "I remove Giant Rat from your Graveyard to increase Power Tool Dragon's ATK by 500 points until the end of my turn!"

The Giant Rat card popped out of Roxanne's duel disk and Power Tool Dragon's ATK rose to 3800.

"I'm not done!" Leo announced. "Next I tribute Morphtronic Boomboxen to summon Gadget Hauler in Attack Mode!"

A large blue truck with a grey trailer appeared next to Power Tool Dragon.

"Now I activate the effect of Gadget Hauler!" Leo announced. "By discarding any number of Morphtronic monsters from my hand to the Graveyard, Gadget Hauler's ATK increases by 800 for each monster discarded by this effect!"

"I discard Morphtronic Clocken and Morphtronic Datatron!" Leo announced as he placed the two cards into the Graveyard slot of his duel disk.

"Now I activate the Spell card, Factory of 100 Machines!" Leo announced. "By removing all eight Morphtronic monsters in my Graveyard from play, I can increase the ATK of Power Tool Dragon by 200 for each card removed!"

The eight cards popped out of the Graveyard slot as Power Tool Dragon's ATK rose to 5400.

"Power Tool Dragon, attack Megarock Dragon!" Leo commanded. "Crafty Break!"

Power Tool Dragon struck Meagrock Dragon with its pickaxe, shattering it into several stone fragments. Roxanne's life points dropped to 2200. Roxanne was wide open. Leo realized that if he finished the duel, Roxanne would end up like Luke. Leo tried to figure out some other way out, but couldn't. In order to save Luna, he had to attack.

"Now, Gadget Hauler, attack Roxanne directly!" Leo reluctantly commanded. "Gadget Cannon!"

Gadget Hauler's cab split open and revealed a massive laser cannon. The cannon fired and hit Roxanne, reducing her life points to zero. Roxanne suddenly began shrieking in pain. Leo ran over to her as her hair caught fire from the sparks. As soon as Roxanne collapsed to the ground, Leo kicked dirt onto her hair to put out the flames. Once the fire was out, Leo hunched over the unconscious Roxanne. He tried shaking Roxanne to wake her up, but just like Luke, Roxanne remained comatose. Tears began to well up in Leo's eyes. He couldn't believe what he had just done. Sure he won the duel, sure he could resume his search for Luna, but why did all that have to mean that Roxanne had to get hurt?

"Looks like you've made a mess of things young man." Said a voice from the woods.

Leo looked up to see a figure emerge from the woods. It was Mrs. Kretch.

"Mrs. Kretch?!" Leo asked in surprise. "What are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same thing." Mrs. Kretch replied.

"I've been trying to find Luna." Leo responded. "I think she's been kidnapped. And something's happened to Luke and Roxanne. Not to mention everyone else in the city. We've got to..."

"I know all about what's been happening young man." Mrs. Kretch said, cutting Leo off.

"How do you know?" Leo asked.

Mrs. Kretch simply grinned and began to chuckle. Leo was suddenly freaked out. He'd never seen Mrs. Kretch smile or chuckle before. There was something evil about it.

"Mrs. Kretch, do you know where Luna is?" Leo asked nervously.

"Of course I do young man." Mrs. Kretch replied.

"Where is she?!" Leo demanded.

"She is with the Grand High Intellect." Mrs. Kretch responded. "And to get to her, you'll have to go through me."

The evil teacher raised her left arm in front of her chest, and in a flash of green light, a duel disk made of a greenish brown metal appeared. Leo raised his duel disk in response and prepared to duel. It seemed he had one more opponent to face before he could get to his sister.
