I love rock, metal, and progressive, but you'll also hear classical, Big Band jazz, oldies, and anything else that tickles my ears.

Great song from Seattle prog metalers Queensryche off their 1986 album Rage For Order.
I love my heavy metal, but my problem with a lot of the metal out there is that its often too extreme for me: not enough melody, and with lyrics that are too graphic/nihilistic. There's the power metal bands, like Kamelot and Nightwish that are more epic and fantasy-based, but I also just like to bang my head to some heavier stuff at times, and there are few bands that fit the bill.
Luckily I think I've found a new band to help satisfy this need in Scar Symmetry, who hail from Sweden (and the Swedes know their metal) and have a more progressive sensibility to their music.
I'm not usually an opera fan, but a clip from this piece in Star Trek: First Contact grabbed my attention so I had to check it out. Pretty good stuff.
Composer: Hector Berlioz
Piece: Vallon Sonore, the start to Act V of the opera Les Troyens (The Trojans)
