I know what you mean about taking on too many projects at once. I get all these ideas for new stories, and there's a part of me that wants to tell all of them at almost the same time. Anyway, I don't think I'll delete any stories of mine that would be part of any discontinued projects. Some of those stories would actually be favorite creations of mine. Thanks for the advice.
I've experienced the same things too when I was more active on FF.net. The ones that I've decided to stop writing, I've left up because I feel that some readers enjoyed the story, and I couldn't bring myself to simply delete them. I think what was hard for me was actually dedicating myself to keep on writing. I tend to take on too many projects at once, and can't find the time to spend on each one. I found what was helpful what writing a few chapters ahead and posting them on a regular basis. Best of luck with yours! :)
You make some very good points. Of course with me part of the issue is that the energy for some of my stories kind of comes and goes. That's especially the case with my Pokemon AU, which is the biggest project I've got going. Still, maybe I should consider what stories I want to do the most and focus on them.
I think the biggest question is which ones are you willing to put your energy into. If there's a fanfiction you're writing, and writing it just drains you and you don't want to do it, it doesn't matter how big of a following it has, you should drop it. If there's a fanfiction you really want to write, and the idea of writing it excites you, you should write it. Trust me, your passion will come through in your writing, and the more it comes through, the more people will want to read it.
And as for whether you should leave your old stuff up or not, I say keep it. I'd much rather read a good fanfiction that's unfinished than not read it at all.
