Okay, fine, that's about schooling. But the idea is similar, if you're thinking of studying these characters and how they suit their roles. It's still studying, right? If you need a new angle, this could be it. Or it could mean nothing at all. Who knows?!
Read your stories, read them as you would another person's story. If you do decide to recreate them go for it, maybe you can use material from the originals, the parts you liked most. Give those originals new back stories, new chapters if you like. Do not run from failure, critics makes you better.
I think you should leave the old story up, but if you do create a new one, make sure that it's different enough from the first one that you're not just writing the same story twice.
