I won't get upset at you if you let me explain my thoughts further.
Yes, I know early marriage happens in real life. So does a lot of things. Doesn't mean I can't be somewhat disturbed by it.
In regards to Kirito's character, I know, I agree with you that I would become a lone wolf in that situation, and I think what happened is part of SAO's finer points.. However, it doesn't delve too deep into his emotions and thoughts concerning what had happened. In fact, it barely returns to what had happened, leading the watcher only to sort of assume that's what going through his mind. And since, well, a poorly executed backstory does not a character make, it gave him a sort of mary-sueish feel to me.
And yes, I know Asuna's character goes from shy newbie to a strong leader, but her major flaw is that they never gave us a why. People just don't change that drastically for no reason. If they showed us an event similar to what happened to Kirito, how she couldn't protect her friends, and how then she decided to never let that happen again, now that would have been amazing development. But no. Heck, they don't give any explanation as to why she's so shy and secretive in the first place, and when we first met her, I was dying to find out. So when they threw that out and gave us what we got...needless to say, I was disappointed.
In the end though... High five. *raises hand* (I told myself if anyone actually read all the way through the rant, I'd give them a high five)
For Deadman wonderland and Soul Eater I completely agree with you on what you were upset about. Now don't get mad but I don't entirely agree with you for SAO and let me explain why.
Okay for SAO you bring up some good points but people do get married at seventeen even today. If you love each other that can happen. Also if you look through out history there have been arranged marriages. Also look at Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. Did you know that Juliet was only 13 in the play? But I'm getting off topic here back to my explanation. Then there is also adoption, which is what I believe they were going for with having Kirito and Asuna "parents" for Yui. Also people are having kids now days when they are 13-14 years old, it happens that's life.
If you looked more at Kirito's character you will see that he is not mary-sued to heck. Yes I know that he is a lone wolf, but he actually is quite funny and has back bone. Even watching the first episode you could tell that he wanted to be with friends, but when he watched everyone in the guild he was in get killed then the final member kill himself it would make since that he would want to stay away from people because he thought that it was because of him is why they got killed. He feels that he should have been able to protect them but he couldn't. Personally if that happened to me I would blame their deaths on myself for a while and probably not want to be around people for a while either because of the watching people you've grown close to die. With Asuna her personality isn't an in the cupboard personality. It goes from being a shy personality to being more of a leader figure, determination, and stubbornness with a soft side hidden behind that leadership personality.
Now yes I do agree with you on the whole cousin love thing was strange to put in there, but nothing came of it so no harm done.
You can take what I've said which ever way you want, but that's what I've got to say about it.
