I kinda think it might have to do with the newer generations not being as friendly online. I joined this place in 2007 and was only 15, and that was when GaiaOnline was still fun to play and deviantART was friendly to everyone no matter what their art style was or skill level. ...The 'online communities' are more like if I like that fandom/art style I'll give you a lot of fav.s- if not- I'm not going to bother unless it's to be mean. *shrug* Maybe it's just me, but, no matter what new website I join it feels the same pretty quick.
I know exactly what you mean, although I've credited mine to simply no longer drawing as...'anime' as I used to. But yes, it seems whenever I come back to submit something which is far better than any of my past work it doesn't seem to catch any attention.
... unrelated but the one time I did try to be more active I decided to attempt giving critique to the newer artists. I stopped after the third day because a few got a little pissy at me ;;;;
thanks, yeah it really sucks, oh how I took for granted my highschool years. X)
And thanks I should but still... I like to get some feed back you know lol
I think it's because not many people are on theO nearly as much anymore. I myself am one of them, college and work has me so busy it's hard to even enter a contest. I love your art, and it's grown so much in the past few years. You should be proud, no matter what people say or don't say!! :D
no I totally agree with you and what you say sounds very true to what iv been seeing as of late. but i guess... on here anyways. if I do want to get some kind of recognition again I'll just have to fall back into what the fad is at the moment.
Well, no worries! I've been there, I've complained also, and all you have to do is draw what the audience on here wants. You may get better reactions for some art on DA than you do on here that's mainly because most of the people on here are beginners and are looking for pictures that might remind them of another anime or something...I don't know how to describe it exactly, but basically people on here want more fanart than thought provoking art.
I think your art has definitely changed to be more thoughtful and more your style...which might be a problem on here...
It's audience audience audience!
And with challenges...you never know what's going to win. Usually it's based on the creator's tastes rather than any serious judging and sometimes (for me at least) I get really bothered by the results if they aren't what seems reasonable to me. Like...a few challenges...which I will not name...>3> But some people come up with genius ideas and are ignored and some people come up with lame ideas and win something...O.o; What I've learned from challenges is that you should look through the creator's previous challenges, see if the judging is fair, or look through their favourites just in case to draw something you think they'd like....or just have fun with the challenge. In most cases, nope, you won't actually get anything even if they say you do, and if you do get something from them then they're very nice people! XD
thanks ^_^ I guess it's just ive been on again off again.. its not my fault though... I have to focus on school not like when I was in highschool. and a teenager. but yes I think a lot of people on here are not getting the recognition they deserve.
Don't worry reeni, i feel the same way. my stuff has improved lots over the last two years and when i post it, no one seems to care or even acknowledge it. Its frustrating.
It's just not the same place anymore. I think everyone from the older days have moved on and the otaku people want to focus on either the people who have remained active the last two or three years or the newbies.
anywho, i very much enjoy your new stuff :) i look forward to seeing it
