Ah, the action scenes. How I dread thee. They are my worst parts to do accurately, but I try my best! They just get rewritten over and over again ^^'
Yeah, some gamers are scary good at what they do. I like to comfort myself with the fact that they probably have no life, but that's just me being a sore loser xP
One thing you need to remember about Toriyama is that he's a better artist than writer, it's not exactly stellar storytelling but what attracts most people to DBZ are the action scenes and Toriyama draws them really well.
Having played Pokemon since day 1, I've found more enjoyment in training a team I want to train rather than go for the more obvious choices, it's not unusual for me to not have a legendary these days.
And having done the Pokemon Championships at least once, I found that even if I had a team of legendaries I wouldn't even come close to the freakish skill of the players there.
I haven't even watched all the DBZ arcs and I was already getting tired of how far they were taking Goku. Powering up is fine and even expected, but after a certain point you should give it a rest. Start another awesome manga Toriyama-san!
And while I haven't played any pokemon games I'm pretty bad at powering up my video game characters until nothing can defeat them. It's hard to resist the siren of easy power lol

The Speed Gamers are the exception to the rule as they are stupidly good but do so for charity
