Hey i really liked the essay. It was well written. I got to know someone i didn't know. Sometimes you get the prince AND the perfect castle and sometimes you don't. But that's what makes the journey all the more interesting isn't it?
I agree i guess about the part sometimes what you want is different than how you imagine and that you won't ever regret it. But i have a question. Even if you don't regret it. Was the journey worth it? Are you happy with what you got?
Sad to say i haven't seen any of your work. That has more to say about me than you. I'm not updated about these kinds of things. Sorry ^^; lol anysways see ya sorry for the long comment.
I agree with both of you. Though my art has retrogressed into a way to express my storyboards and plots in ways that no normal words can, I still look to my art for guidance, because there are things that I have to capture with an image before I can capture it in written word. Personality can be portrayed easier in imagery than in writing and I use that to my advantage. Right now, even though I am a manga fangirl (and I will not deny that), I am still a writer and artist. As such, I feel that you should create first and foremost for yourself and those you care about...rather than caring about what some stiff-necked CEO thinks when he doesn't give a happy damn about your work, if you will pardon my language. So, I figure that a happy medium is best. Thank you and sorry if I offend people, but you have to learn to deal with the offensive, because everything offends someone.
Truthfully, it's a double edged sword. I suppose maybe I worded it wrong. Doing simple art for others is fabulous. There is nothing, NOTHING better in the world than doing a piece for someone at a show, and having them love it so much they cry or smile or giggle and jump. I adore that.
However, signing on contract projects? It's a bummer sometimes. I've worked with some pretty difficult tickets in my day and done things that have gone against the grain of what I felt would work, but that's the way you go when you do freelance.
Thanks for the objectiveness. =) It actually made me smile and remember that sometimes, we CANT be jaded about everything.
I do think I agree with you in most points there, not that I really know XD I want to do manga myself. I am well aware that it won't all be fun and it will definitely be hard work, and there will be restrictions, and I think it's important to be aware of this. I don't suppose it could count as a career if it was easy ^^ Though I still do think I'd love it, I can't imagine not loving to draw. I think what you say is interesting, and I guess it is important not to get your expectations to high. Still...I look forward to it none-the-less ^_^; If I can manage that is XD
Good luck to you with everything.
