Ghost

Chapter 29

This new school was confusing, even though it was small, it was bigger than my old one. I made my way to my first class, happy knowing that Zak was somewhere close at least. The teacher introduced me, and asked where I moved to. When I said the address the room went quiet.

“That old place?” One boy asked. I nodded nervously. I saw one girl whisper something to another and they both laughed. The teacher pursed her lips and called them out. “Addy, is there something you would like to say or ask?” She asked.

“Yes actually...” She looked at me and smirked. “Do you want to borrow my ouija board? Or are you more of a shrine kind of goth?”

“Neither. My family and I are aware of the houses history and have had no issues there.” I said crossing my arms.

“Watch out everyone, the Adams Family is back in town.” The class all snickered at her comment. “And Little Wednesday has grown up some.” Her head was pulled back all of a sudden and I saw some of her hair fall quickly back into place. She whipped around and yelled at the kids behind her, all who swore their innocence. I quickly sat in the back row, keeping away from the Addy girl and her group of barbie wannabes. I couldn’t help but cover my mouth and look down, keeping my chuckle low.

I was walking home when I heard a familiar voice in my ear. “That wasn’t so bad, was it?” Zak said.

“I can’t believe you yanked on that girl’s hair.” I laughed.

“Pfft, it’s not like she knew what was going on. And I’m not gonna let someone pick on you or the house.” He said. We got to the front porch and I turned my head a little to the still invisible boy.

“Next thing you know they’ll be accusing me of voodoo or witchcraft.” I wiggled my finger ominously at him.

“I hope not.” He said. I opened the door and stopped for a second.

“Thank you.” I muttered.

“Of course.” He said back. I could hear the smile on his face and it was nice knowing that he felt proud of himself. I walked in and shut the door.

“Tie her shoelaces next time.” I smiled widely.

“Now that’s just mean.” Zak whispered.

“Oh I could be much worse.” I turned around and winked.

“I don’t think I want to know.” He chuckled. I went into the living room and sat down my bag.

“Hi Mom, hi Dad.” I greeted. Dad looked over at me, his face reading confused.

“Who were you talking to? I could have swore I heard voices.” He asked. This whole keeping Zak a secret was already driving me nuts and it had only been a day.

“No one. I never said anything.” I said.

“Oh, never mind then. The stuff that is upstairs in the attic, are you still going through it?” He asked.

“Of course I am, why?” I asked. I wasn’t sure what was going on.

“I was going to toss a lot of it, but then your mother threw a fit.” He said. My jaw dropped.

“Absolutely not, you will not throw anything out, this is my project.” I said sternly. Dad looked a bit taken aback but then nodded. I went back into the kitchen and leaned against the sink. Zak appeared sitting on the counter next to me, swinging his legs with a little smirk.

“Well your very defensive today. Shields up at 100% captain.” I looked down, trying to hide my smile. What a smartass, and he continued. “Is it that time of the month? You seem a bit evil.” Oh really? Two could play at this game. I leaned in close to him.

“You think so? You’re one to talk.” I said.

“It’s one thing for me.”

“You know, I can tell when you’re watching me.” I informed him. He got a cocky smile on his face.

“Mmmm, really now?” He said. I raised my eyebrow and put my hands on my hips.

“Did you like the show yesterday? Is blue my color?” I pulled my jeans down on my hip and showed off thee top of my blue panties. I knew he was watching yesterday but I also knew he would run as soon as the bra got unclasped. His glasses got so foggy so fast that I laughed and went up to the attic, out the window, and onto the roof. He would come up once the burn I had just gave him cooled off a little.
