Welcome, stranger!

Salem, the witch city...2010. A year when nobody believes in magic anymore. Witch trials aren't practiced anymore...but wizards and witches are still around.

You see, witches and wizards in this modern times act like normal people. They get jobs, they go to school and...live normally. Except for the fact that they possess magical powers. Most of them practice magic secretly or attend to magic classes in the Blackwood Academy at a young age before graduating and start practicing on their own.

Not all witches and wizards are bad at all. Four witches stand out as Nature Keepers, some wizards use magic to determine what really happened in crime scenes and many witches work as nurses and use their magic to heal...you name it. However, not all of them are good either...and some are bent of getting revenge of mortals for hunting down their ancestors.

As for the mortals? Oh. Well, most of them have stopped believing in witchcraft, but a few of them, however, are still bent on proving that witches and wizards still roam Salem, and pretend to hunt them down once more.

Welcome to Salem. What side will you choose?

Magic Rules and Info

Introduction

Hello. If you are reading this, then we'll assume you are a young witch or wizard. If you are not, put this book down before a curse falls upon you. We do not wish for this to happen.

Now, to begin, magic is real. It comes from nature, from our minds, from our blood and from the world's energy. There are different types of magic, but the theory is always the same. While most human beings are only able to use a 10% of their brain, witches and wizards have the ability to use their full brain, which allows us to do things mortals cannot do. However, we still use some parts of our brain more that the others. This is why we can control ONLY a certain type of magic:

Elemental Magic: The ability to control one or more and in rare cases, all of the four natural elements: Fire, Water, Earth and Air. The only known coven that possesses this ability is the Nature Keepers coven of Salem.

Healing Magic: This one is very dificcult, but extremely useful if you know how to control it. Healing magic emerges from your heart and soul's energy and is used to cure wounds and treat injuries. Advanced Healers can heal themselves involuntarily as well.

Mental Magic: This is the magic that comes from our minds. It allows us to read people's thoughts and move objects with our minds. It is dangerous, though. If not used properly, it can drive us insane.

Oracle Magic: One of the most simple and at the same time complicated magic. It will allow you to see the future, but it is very subtle. One desicion can make the whole future shift. Other things are easier...like the weather.

Dark and Light Magic: Both wonderful, both dangerous. The rarest of all types of magic. Light is clear. Dark is opaque. Light is sweet. Dark is bitter. Light is...good. Dark is evil. As simple as that. One is not born with this abilities. You gain them through a Faust-like contract. Light magic will be granted by Angels and Dark magic by demons. They clash all the time.

Basic: And of course, the basics. We all know them. Invisibility, flight, luck spells, etc. Those are known and practiced by EVERY witch and wizard in the world.

Potions and Amulets

A potion is a special brew prepared with ingredients that contain magical propetries--like belladonna. Potions are brewed in cauldrons, not regular pots, as the remaints of them might have some horrible effects if you swallow them by accident--which will happen if they mix with your food.

Now, certain potions should be brewed on a specific time--i.e, the full moon or even at Halloween. Love potions should be prepared with a crescent moon, and a transfiguring potion takes a month to be prepared. The instructions--which are explained in specialized potion books--must be followed carefully.

Amulets and idols cannot be stolen. An amulet and an idol are similar: they are innanimate objects that possesses magical qualities--protection, for example. However, if stolen, they won't protect you at all and will instead backfire and invite evil spirits in.

A warning on idols: Some of them have a seal, which is an object they will most likely hold in their hands--like a plate, cup, chain or anything. Do not remove them. If you do, the statue might come to life, and there are bad idols as well--which will most likely try to kill you. Be careful.

Rules on Magic

Of course, witches and wizards have rules, like mortals. We have few, but they are to be followed.

-Never, ever EVER use your magic to hurt someone.

-You cannot steal spells/charms/amulets from any other witch/wizard. They will just backfire on you.

-A coven's secrecy is to be protected. What happens in the coven stays in the coven...as weird as that may sound.

-And ultimately, it is forbidden to tell any mortal about your true identity.

Witch trials

Of course, there have been witch huntings in the past, with the most famous being the Salem Witch Trials--read the paragraphs below for bigger information.

Quote:The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings before local magistrates followed by county court of trials to prosecute people accused of witchcraft in Essex, Suffolk, and Middlesex counties of colonial Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693. The episode has been used in political rhetoric and popular literature as a vivid cautionary tale about the dangers of religious extremism, false accusations, lapses in due process, and governmental intrusion on individual liberties.

Despite being generally known as the Salem witch trials, the preliminary hearings in 1692 were conducted in a variety of towns across the province: Salem Village, Ipswich, Andover and Salem Town. The best-known trials were conducted by the Court of Oyer and Terminer in 1692 in Salem Town. Over 150 people were arrested and imprisoned, with even more accused but not formally pursued by the authorities. At least five more of the accused died in prison. All twenty-six who went to trial before this court were convicted. The four sessions of the Superior Court of Judicature in 1693, held in Salem Village, but also in Ipswich, Boston, and Charlestown, produced only three convictions in the thirty-one witchcraft trials it conducted. The two courts convicted twenty-nine people of the capital felony of witchcraft. Nineteen of the accused, fourteen women and five men, were hanged. One man (Giles Corey) who refused to enter a plea was crushed to death under heavy stones in an attempt to force him to do so

Hence the need of secrecy. It is believed that mortals still have the suspiscion that wizards and witches are still around, which is not good for us. So you know it. Keep the secret. Cross your heart and hope to die.
