Yeah, I think it would be a great thing to have more original art in the wallpaper section. A challenge might help, but there are some things to work through, first. Getting many people to participate would probably require incentive more than medal icons, so there's that.
I also wouldn't want to cut out the people who actually do make wallpapers, so that requires some thinking. Maybe a category for artists (to submit something new) and also a category for wall'ers. The second category would require people to 1.) get permission from an artist to use a specific piece of fanart, and 2.) use it to create something new. I wouldn't want people to just take a high-res piece of art and crop it to be wallpaper-sized, so there would need to be a lower limit on how much the wallpaper differs from the original piece. Maybe that would work?
So, there are some things to work out, but I like the idea.
"And yeah,I tried one of yours. Here's the result.I like it since I prefer simplistic wallpapers, though I had to crop it for my 1280 x 800 res. desktop. =)"
Oh, maybe I should go back to my file and submit different ratios. I just drew it at one size and submitted that, but it wouldn't be hard for me to do the cropping. Do you think it makes a difference in who's interested in it?
This is something which had actually crossed my mind before. Also, seeing your wallpaper submissions in the last few days,I found it interesting that you had drawn them (unlike most wallpaper artists on theO,who start off from a scan or screenshot) and it is a nice change.
So,it would be good to see more wallpapers which the artists have created from scratch. As you mentioned "it's a good thing to have variety"

Keep up the inspiring work!
