I didn't think you did actually. XD; I thought that perhaps they had seen a comment you had made somewhere, but then i don't think your criticism is mean at all so that didn't make much sense either. >: I would, however, like to know who they deemed were mean with their criticism, just out of curiosity.
*nods* That's good, that's good. Personally i never comment much because i tend to focus on what's wrong (as i do with my own art) than on what's good, so if i comment i end up sounding like an idiot. >A>'
"The only problem is that usually when one person sees a picture they've drawn from a while ago they often think "wow...I thought that was good??" and things like that. For some reason, it seems that whenever we draw a pic, we see it one way when we draw and finish it and a different way after time has passed."
I couldn't help but see that bit of your other comment and i agree there. XD; I really hate (and yet love) looking through old art and seeing how awful my previous pictures were and so i swiftly send them to scraps. XD; I mean it's good too i think, because you can see how much you improved then right? @A@' But then you also wish someone had helped you and pointed out some things you could've improved on like the proportions and all that.
@A@' Gah, i lost my train of thought. OTL I hope that made sense.
Hm...I see what you're saying Sayoko-chan, pushing oneself to improve rather than relying on others is another way to go. The only problem is that usually when one person sees a picture they've drawn from a while ago they often think "wow...I thought that was good??" and things like that. For some reason, it seems that whenever we draw a pic, we see it one way when we draw and finish it and a different way after time has passed. So personally I would find pushing oneself in that way not really reliable because it doesn't seem to work that way for me. But of course, everyone has their own method of doing things and I guess the way you do it isn't meant for me, which is fine too~ ^^ To each his own! *nods*
Your comment wasn't useless at all Sayoko-chan! Getting different views on things is always great because it helps me see in different ways myself ^^ I shall do my best to help you whenever I can! It's the least I can do to support my friends<3 *huggles* Thank you!
The thing is though, Unknown-chan, I didn't even give the person that sent me that pm any constructive criticism xDD They were mentioning to me of some names of people that they deemed "mean with their criticism" and told me that if I don't want to end up like them that I shouldn't be so harsh and not give it unless its asked for.
But personally I think I'll just continue with the way I do comments and give constructive criticism here and there like I normally do. If I give it on every single pic that everyone submits it wouldn't do that much good because of the situation. The artist could either improve a lot from one pic to another or there could possibly be almost no change at all. Improvement takes time, so I'll probably end up continuing with the way I do comments and just give constructive criticism every now and then, rather than give it on every single one. *nods*
No no no your comment wasn't useless at all! Thank you for commenting, Unknown-chan it really did help me think over some things ^^
Aww thanks so much Kie-chan! ^^ I love commenting because it gives me a chance to project myself out to people and at the same time give them support and advice every now and then~ *huggles* I'm glad you like the way I comment! I shall continue to do so! *nods*
I like to learn my own mistakes with my own eyes and strength. When i post art I usually notice my hundreds of mistakes and complain about it anyway lol XD I know this sounds retarded, but I like to teach myself how to draw without people's help, I kinda have a slight insecurity/ pride when it comes to these things. XD 'Cuz then when I draw something, it'll constantly be in my head that my art skills are not 100% mine because someone else helped me develop to become a better artist and I didn't improve by myself with my own strength. You know where I'm getting at? XD blegh. I know I'm weird, someone shoot me D: But I always respect people's kind advice and don't go THAT far as to pm someone about their critisism XD That's just plain stupid. :/ I'll always appreciate good critisism where the writer pour their heart and soul into it, that is for sure. It's much better than having people spew nasty things or like the incident with my vocaloid lmao
but I don't mind at all if you give my critisism! ^u^ You always give very good advice unlike some ppl who love to give critisism but they tend to forget that the artist has feelings like all humans do. You try to give the artist alternatives while still letting the artist keep thier style. You're very caring and good at giving someone a boost and idea. :3
I think the right time to critisize someone's art is if the prsn is being too prideful in their art and think they don't need help when they rly need help (but those ppl are usually the ones who flame back at you, so don't even bother XD) or if someone despirately ask for some advice, then obviously go ahead :3
So critisizing among friends is probably the safest and non-stressful/ non-headache-giving way XD You have to be careful tho >_>
I dunno, I don't like giving critisism cuz this stuff happens. :/
After reading angel-chan's post, I try to give more constructive critisism to my friends, but I just can't do it OTL *sigh* I feel like I don't have the right to critisize cuz I'm not a perfect artist at all, so it's kinda hypocritical in a way..?
I guess I'll start by giving it to people who ask for advice I guess @u@; I usually don't find anything to critisize about tho XD
Ffff, good luck Sayura-chan. :T
Sorry but people here on TheO really HATE getting criticism and stuff. They get all defensive and angry and curse. >A>'
Hence that PM you received, i'm sure.
But the problem with the 'If they didn't ask for it, don't give it.' is that some people know they did stuff wrong and don't want it to be pointed out to them again, BUT then they don't necessarily learn how to fix/get better at what they did wrong as quickly.
>: So yeah, i dunno. I don't think my comment here helped at all. >A>'
But i guess if you feel like the artist needs a bit of criticism, then by all means, do it, if they don't like it then oh well(but chances are they're gonna try out what you said anyways. XD; ) and if they do, then you know you've helped a growing artist. I guess you really just have to take the chance and see what happens. :/
i dunno, just ignore me. XD;
honestly
i love your coments, every one else is always like
"omg you did a great job!"
the end
i love yours cause their always lengthly and i always wana know what i can improve on. some ppl are just to overly sencitive i guess...its ushaly them who sort of need it too...XD
i wish more ppl would coment like you ^^
Now, don't be silly, you didn't sound rude at all! I always welcome constructive criticism, so go ahead! It is a good way to learn how to improve on things ^^
ok!
thanks!
I know, I really hate it when people do that. It bruises my work and my ego DX
but I'm gonna try getting critique and critiquing art myself, even though I'm terrible at it ^.^'
Haha that's where people make the mistake...there's a tendency for people to think that constructive criticism is flaming but there's actually a HUGE difference.
Flaming totally demeans an artist's work. Constructive criticism is advice to help the artist improve.
I promise you that I won't make that mistake! I want to make sure I can help you whenever I can! ^^

Go ahead and give the constructive criticism my dear~
it'll help sooooooo much especially since most comments these days are just "OMGGGG SO CUTEEE" or "u suck get a life that doesn't involve drawing" as of course u've seen Angel's comment guide. :P
I think it would help us all a lot. and personally I think that one user should've accepted ur suggestions! in order to get better, u must not only criticize ur own art, but u must also allow to except what other people think. of course others need to learn how to criticize correctly to fit the artist's level and understanding of art, and how they will react to them. like saying "The way you draw eyes is really weird. make them more slanted and smaller" or something would be bad because that would mean changing their style and what their used to. also you can't come on too harsh cuz one might find it as a form of flaming and such. but you sometimes need to point out something that could be improved so the artist can look at that and see what needs to be fixed. like proportions or if the eyes aren't in the right position or if the shading is slightly incorrect
xD ppfft I don't really know where I'm going with this comment. it's getting really long.
but anyways Constructive criticism would be wonderful~
Take care Sayura-chan! :D *hugs*
