I remember seeing a report on the news about this years ago. Frankly I don't understand how people can be so stupid as to put incriminating information/pictures online where anyone can look at them. They're basically shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to employment opportunities.

I'll say it again, I hate FB lol. It's why I keep my activity there to a minimum, except to comment on your guys' stuff. And yeah its public knowledge, so of course it could be used against you. I'm sure a lot of times employers don't bother to look at stuff like FB cause it's too much of a hassle to find someone some times. But I'm sure what busts a lot of people is where someone will post something and someone they KNOW from work on FB will see it and tattle tail. Our employer has warnings about FB and twitter too, like you can't talk about anyone from work on there, or post anything about what happens at work, and stuff like that. So if your friend or that chick thinks employers are blind the the whole FB thing, they're fooling themselves.

This is one of the many reasons why I don't use things like FaceBook where my name is attached, or flat-out name people in most rants and things until I know that the people I'm talking to are really my friends. Stuff like FaceBook is common, public knowledge as a breeding place for stupidity. While something you posted when you were fourteen might not be relevant to you as a twenty-four-year-old, it's still out there. Showing a gradual evolution of character is one thing, but if you're and adult, posting things about weed and illegal paraphernalia, that's not good. Party pictures aren't either. Hell, just being part of a group of friends that parties all the time could be a strike against you (unless it's rather clear you're the designated driver/responsible one, for that might get you points depending on who's looking). Most people don't really understand those specific dangers of a place like FaceBook. It's just plain dumb and a hassle if you ask me.

that is exactly why i refuse to have a facebook. i want to be a teacher someday, and i'd rather not, in a moment of stupidity, put something out there that can ruin my dream. but the one good thing about theO is that it's not as well know as things like facebook and twitter (by normal, non-otaku people). but it's still good to be careful.
Yes, stuff like this are available for everyone. That's why it is still best to make use of privacy settings... But some people don't think about such things, do they?

Yep, this is why a lot of my friends have protected Facebook accounts and Twitter feeds.
