My school's too small to have buses, so I'll just say that if I did ride the bus to school, I'd be nice to my bus driver.
I'm sorry that you got in an accident. If it's any consolation I believe you moreso than I believe the witnesses. You saw it with your own eyes and knew what you were thinking at that time--but people on the streets could have distorted views. You never know what they're thinking how the saw it play out or what.
I'm glad you're ok, though! That's a blessing that you got out with only a couple of bruises.
Don't worry too much about it. Everything will work out. If you fight hard enough and work at getting the truth be known, then I'm sure nothing bad will come of it!
I'm not saying it's impossible that stress and such can make you think things that are one way instead of another, but yeah, red lights are a pretty hard one to mess up regardless. So yeah, you'll just hafta go from there.
If your safety instructor says you won't lose your job over it, then that should be good enough for ya for now. Obviously something else'll probably come up instead, but it's not gonna be your job. It's somethin', y'know? And really, once you factor everything in, it could have been a whole lot worse. There could've been kids in the bus, you could've NOT been in a bus (I've always imagined those things should be able to take a beating). There could've been more vehicles involved. There could've been pedestrians. Take solace in the fact that it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been - luck counts, I'd say.
Other than that, all I can say is that shit happens; you'll feel better in a few days - I'd say "feel better in the morning", but these ones generally take a little longer.
I believe in you, if you said it was green, it most certainly was. I cannot believe that the witnesses actually thought you would do such a thing, specially being a school bus driver! Its insane, really.
I'm really glad you're okay and thank god no kids were involved on this.
Its not easy to get over such a terrible thing but with time it will start to ease up.
For now do try to get some rest okay? Because if you don't, you'll get sick.
Chaser - The local media(95.1 FM Kenosha) thought there were kids on my bus when reporting the accident this morning. "Luckily, no children were hurt." That pisses me off to no end, if they are going to put that on the air, get the story right first. I WAS EMPTY, NO CHILDREN WERE INVOLVED! Whatever, they're idiots to begin with.
@ everyone - Yeah, not easily forgotten, or easy to move on. But the powers that be threw me right back on the road today. I have a feeling if we werent severly understaffed, I would have gotten the day off to relax and regroup. But, thats not the case.

I trust your judgement and not the witnesses. If you say it was green, then it was green. I wonder what the driver of the SUV says... but I wouldn't trust them to tell the truth if they DID run the light.
I'm glad you're OK and the accident wasn't compounded by having any kids onboard. This isn't something you can get over easily, especially in your profession, but I hope this doesn't escalate any further.

I'm glad you're ok, and that no one was hurt. You seem pretty dead certain the light was green, and since you haven't made any mistakes in the past, I'm inclined to trust YOU on this one. That other person probably has a bad record. Since you've no other marks on your record, it'll probably get thrown out. If there's anything we can do for you, let us know.
I was pretty shaken up for a few days after I had to attempt to save a kid when she swam under our raft by accident. She swam out, and it wasn't a dire situation at all, but I was pretty unsteady about it afterwards. So I know how you feel. Just give yourself some time, the weird, freak out feeling will pass.
I've always been nice to my bus drivers. They have to tow around tons of annoying kids. I give them a break. o3o [I also give them Christmas presents.]
What the witness says isn't making a bunch of sense to me. Why on earth would you stop, creep, and then just randomly go? Being a bus driver is different than driving a car - it doesn't sound like any random motorist can just hope in the driver's seat of a bus and go. So it's not like your an idiot or a n00b.
The good thing is that you have the support of those that matter, and that you're not going to lose your job. Thank God for that.
Good luck on all of this. Try and relax; it's no good if you get yourself sick over this.
