If anyone asks for your IM in the chat and you dont know them, you can TELL something's up. No one asks for IMs in the chat ever unless there's a definite purpose right then and there for it or you're good friends with the person.
Now theo is one of the safest sites i've ever been on in my life but granted there are people who are not "good" on every website. Can't hold it against theo really. The mods do an excellent and insane job of keeping those people out too.
Yeah, that person sounds like they were being really creepy. It's good you blocked them since it seems like they were trying to take advantage of you. There's no reason for them to have you lie to your parents so you guys could talk about Twilight. I mean, that's just weird. I love Twilight but I'm not going to ask someone to lie to their parents and create a secret AIM so I can talk to them about it. Sounds like they had other motives behind that so you did the right thing. *nods*
It's one thing to want to use another IM service... But trying to get you to be dishonest with your parents isn't a good thing. I'm glad you blocked them. You should never do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.
Woah. That's a bit pushy for them to tell you to decieve your parents. So yeah, blocking is probably best. You don't really want to hang out with people who push for you to break the rules. It's not worth the hassle.
Definitely stay away from people that make you feel uncomfortable. It's better in the long run to play it safe. :)

Blocking them is the best thing to do. There's no reason to insist on using something else for talking when chat has the private chat function. Just as there's no reason for them to tell you it's not lying when it is. So smart move on your part. It's best to just stay away from people like that.

Stay away from creepy people like that. Even though I'm guessing it was just a kid lying about his/her age it's still creepy.

lol, I always forget about the private chat option. Yeah, if you don't want to use a separate IM account, then private chat is the best way to go, since the mods are just a step away if something weird happens.
But, yeah, it should be your choice to talk to people however you want to communicate with them. Nobody should pressure you into doing something with which you are uncomfortable.
