Book To-DO List
Currently Reading :
The Young Elites by Marie Lu
Summary: I honestly didn't even glance at the book summary and I'm not that far in it yet. But, it was written by Marie Lu, who wrote the Legend series ( simply amazing, I cried when that ended) so I'm trusting that this new series will be good, too. It's interesting so far.
Want To Read:
Dreams of Gods and Monsters -Taylor (last name of author)
Sophie 's World- Gaarder
The One - Cass
The Maze Runner - Dashner
The Faceless Ones - Landy
Strange and Ever After - Dennard
Fangirl - Rainbow
Eleanor and Park - Rainbow
Crashing Into You - McGarry
Dorothy Must Die - Paige
Last Book:
Vortex by S.J. Kincaid; last book in Insignia trilogy ( everything's a trilogy nowadays)
Thoughts: Best book of the series in my opinion. I'm glad I read it. You discover that the author was actually trying to convey this big life lesson. Good if you like futuristic, outer-space, comedy, friendship, books.
One Word: Meaningful
Brainstorm
So, I'm entering this contest where you have to write and illustrate a children's book that teaches kids about accepting other cultures. I have 2 and a half weeks left to do it, but I don't really have any ideas yet. I think being unique will help me win so the first thing I'm gonna do is make a list of the cliches that you usually hear about this topic, to make sure I don't include in my book:
- Treat others the way you want to be treated
- Try it ( like a food from a different country) and you might like it
- Pay attention to the inside not the outside/ don't judge a book by its cover
I know these are good messages, but I hear them all the time and I want to create something new instead of just recycling old sayings.
I have ideas of what to include, but not a specific story. Then again, it's supposed to be a book for K-5 graders so I guess it doesn't really need a story. Ideas:
- Include facts about different cultures that a kid would probably think are cool or interesting
- Tell which things in our culture originally came from other cultures
This is what I have so far. I need to give it more thought.
