Sorry for the post spam today, but this was so amusing that I had to share it.
Today has been a pretty hellish day in the news room -- there are an ungodly amount of people out sick or on vacation, so the staff is stretched quite thin, both among the reporters and the editorial desk. We have been overworked like crazy today, which is how this gem of a headline -- from a story about the planned funeral for a woman who died in a car crash -- almost made it online (I noticed it in time because the Web headlines are listed with the stories we edit):
"Woman killed in Monterey Park crash laid"
... Yeah, that might have been a tad offensive (and a bit embarrassing for us!) had that actually made it through. At least it cleared the tension in here!
Random research question
How many anime can people think of that directly feature cell phones/the Internet/online social networking in the plot? I'm interested in writing a post about the portrayal of these items in anime, and how that portrayal has evolved from the infancy of the 'net to today. (Though I'm trying to keep my post has narrow as possible, because I don't want to drive myself insane, haha.)
As long as these things figure into the plot in more than an incidental way (i.e. if two random background characters speak on cell phones in Honey and Clover, I don't need to know that :p), then feel free to mention them. Ask me any questions if you want me to clarify, as well.
