Disturbing the peace? I got thrown out of a window!

I hate medicine. On the one hand, the cough medicine I took last night has helped me tremendously with the soreness that just about ravaged by throat yesterday. On the other hand, I feel like a slight breeze could tip me over. The medicinal feelin...

My Week in Anime #52

So, this week I am implementing Alla's valuable suggestion and separating the series I write about here and the ones I write about on UNMEI KAIHEN (with accompanying links). It seems like common sense, which is probably why I went so long without ...

I am 24. Glorify me.

lol j/k

Don't know if I'll do anything particularly special today other than catch up on some anime (I'm such a slacker) and work. But actually having work is a special birthday gift all its own, so I won't complain too much!

Today (or yesterday?) I spent most of the morning helping out at a journalism workshop put together by one of my college professors. I took a group of high schoolers around and helped them come up with story ideas based on things around campus. It was a bit difficult to strike a balance between prodding them in the right direction and outright giving them ideas, haha. Half of them were pretty gung ho about getting story ideas and wandered off with their adviser to get information from various sources. Didn't like being ditched all too much, but I guess I'd rather they be overzealous about journalism than completely apathetic.

Also, I think I'm starting to morph into an old fogey. There was a headline competition later in the day, where each student was given a news story and asked to write a headline for it. Predictably, when it came time for the popular vote, the young'uns went for the flashy, exciting headlines, while I grumbled a bit and sided with the functional, descriptive straight news headlines. If I start complaining bitterly about how newspapers are dying, and about how news isn't real news unless you're reading it out of a paper in your hands, feel free to chuck a shoe at me.

But, yeah, it was nice to catch up with some of my professors and a couple of friends who helped out at the workshop. It was fun complaining about the news with people. :P I like seeing how the school newspaper continues to evolve, too. The visuals are so much more advanced than when I worked there. The computers are also way better than what I work with now, which is kind of sad ...

Random thing: I know at least one birthday gift I'll get -- Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami. My goal of owning every Murakami book released in America is one step closer to fruition.

A "monster" of a post. Ha ha.

I'm sorry.

Monster post relatively on time this week. I can get work done when I put my mind to it! This is the point where the series steps up its game. There will be the odd side story episodes along the lines of ep9-10 every so often, but ep10 is pretty much low man on the totem pole.

A few random things: 1) Hartmann is an asshole. 2) Dieter rules. 3) I heard Adam started "singing" at an inappropriate moment in the show lol. 4) The end of ep12 is pretty dramatic, but it is admittedly a bit silly because of, well, "DEEEEEEEETAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH". I love Monster, but that is hilarious. I shout it all the time. About the 3:45 mark of the video is where the lulz begin. It's one of the very few instances of unintentional humor in Monster, but that probably makes it more funny.

EDIT: I should also clarify that I'm talking about the Japanese version. The English dub is actually subdued in comparison.

Also, in my movie post yesterday, I completely forgot to add that I watched the "complete" version of FFVII -- Advent Children. I'm a fair guy and wanted to give the movie another chance. Maybe if I watched it expecting only to enjoy the visuals, fights and fanservice, then I'd have a good time. But ... I just can't get past the first half of the movie being so damn boring. It's half the movie establishing a plot I don't care about. Cue yawning. The fights, absurd as they are, are lots of fun, but I just cannot get past that story, as hard as I try. Plus, Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo are all goofs. Who the hell could take any of those losers seriously? On the flip side, I'll always imagine Aeris speaking in Maaya Sakamoto's voice from now on. And Cloud with Takahiro Sakurai.

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles

Skipped a week because I watched just a couple of movies last week and didn't feel like posting. But now I have four to post about! Yay! Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008...
