Best case scenario with Endless Eight is that it's all a ploy to get people to buy DVDs. If they release DVDs that only have two Endless Eight episodes and new episodes replacing the rest, I could maybe forgive them.

A lot of people are also riled up over it because S2 is supposedly only 12 episodes long, in which case more than half of it has been dedicated to Endless Eight. I personally don't buy this b/c KyoAni can't possibly be that stupid. They're just trolling us into the fall, I bet, and that belief alone calmed me down about this whole thing.
In the meantime, I just hope they keep doing crack things to Itsuki. >_>;;

Oh, believe me. Escaflowne gets REAL CRAZY with the plot twists towards the end. There is some... really creative stuff that goes down during the last few episodes. *snickers* xD xD xD
And LOL @ your comments on the show's romance. Yeah, Van was a total dumbass and Allen was just really patronizing with women most of the time... but I was still able to stomach the romance pretty well in spite of all that. And Dryden was a pretty cool guy.
And yeah, Azuma is a pretty cool guy too once he starts siding against the asshole coach. Surprisingly mature and level-headed, too, as I'm sure you've already begun seeing.

"Endless Eight" is the current plotline of the series. It involves everyone stuck in a time loop Haruhi has unknowingly caused. They've repeated the same three-week stretch in summer more than 15,000 times now. Kyoto Animation has decided to represent this by running what is essentially the same episode, with a few minor differences, for six weeks in a row. Nobody has any clue when it will end, and pretty much every fan of the series is immensely pissed off at this point. A former KyoAni director, who directed the first season of Haruhi Suzumiya, has even apologized for the shitty way KyoAni (a normally excellent animation studio) has handled this storyline.
