You type out the tags manually as you write? Man, how awesomely square is that? I have images of you rewriting theO code in real-time as you type, like Yuki Nagato.
I'll have to check out that thing on Alien Nine and see what it says. There's a lot going on in those 4 episodes, but it's not overwhelming or disconnecting in any way.
*sees Skip Beat in the comment and squees loudly* Now back to Shimmy-Loo >.>
Yeah, I can really really really recommend Skip Beat! Didn't you try it out at one point, though? I have this vague memory of such a happening.... *shrugs* And now you've gone and made me want to watch Whisper of the heart again <3

Well you know me, I'd love to see you watch .hack//SIGN. However, it's amusing that you should mention that too much anime relies on dialogue, 'cause... ehehe. Yeah, if you don't mind some chatter for twenty-five, twenty-six episodes, then I'd say go for it.
Also, Seirei no Moribito. Please, do yourself a favor and watch it. It's a very beautiful anime, the OP is badass and one of my favorite ever, the characters are awesome ESPECIALLY Balsa for being a strong female protagonist without resorting to skimpiness or anything of that sort... you see where I'm going with this? So yeah, if you're asking me, then you need to see that.
EDIT: Also I just noticed but EFF YES YOU'RE FINALLY SEEING FIDDLER ON THE ROOF ABOUT DAMN TIME! *pie'd*

Gruesomeness doesn't bother me too much when it doesn't feel empty and pointless, so Beserk wouldn't drive me away like that.
Also, in reading about Kyoko a while back, she seems like the kind of character I can really get behind. Skip Beat! is a pretty good possibility, too ...
I use the italics tag so much that I end up using it as a closing tag for other things a fair number of times (since I type out the tags manually while I write this stuff :p).
Justin Sevakis wrote a good Buried Treasure column about Alien Nine that got me interested in it. Only four episodes, too ... hmm ... I'm being swayed ...

BERSERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRK.
Sure, it's an ad for the manga more than anything, but that doesn't mean the anime isn't good on its own right. It really has an epic story, even as a stand-alone, and set the precedent for later seinen series. The characterization and overall themes of the story are interesting... a couple of the more heavily-explored themes that have really stayed with me over the years is the price of achieving glory and the qualities (both good and bad) of the people who even possess the ability to become someone 'great.' And yeah, it's gruesome as hell, but darn it, it's amazing!
I would say Touch, but since you recently watched Cross Game, I'd actually recommend holding off on it a bit... Also, Skip Beat! For previously mentioned reasons. But just to reiterate: strong female lead, acting doesn't take a backseat to the romance (not in the anime, at least!), and a revenge story that ends up being more of a 'reclaiming one's identity' story. :3
I think there's an open "strike-through" in here. Unless, it's intentional, and you've got some deep philosophical reason for doing it (which, if it's the case, then it'll drive me mad as I try and decipher it).
Regarding your MAL, I recommend Alien Nine. It's one of those types of anime that gets labeled "psychological" - but don't hold that against it! In fact, I think that's a bad and misleading label. Is it strange? Sure it is, but I found it good-strange, and not bad-strange. Also, I'm reminded to watch Gunslinger Girl.
