Today, June 20, '09, Kastom, nomad, and I did a little science-anime discussion in a member created room. I'll have to ask Kastom for the first quarter of the chatlog so I can see how the complete version looks. If it looks presentable, with some editing, one of us will send it your way. I still like the idea of having a World for this sort of stuff, so we'll see what happens.
Yeah, it does sound like it would be fun, since Nan and I already debate and talk about manga most days. Unfortunately, now that my laptop isn't working I won't be able to do it at all. Dx
Oh yeah, sorry for the late reply. I haven't been on the computer for a little while.
Excellent! As you can see we had a pretty good trial run in chat. I think an edited version of something like that would work (just like how I'm now editing this comment--good grief).

I'm with Allamorph here. If I'm not watching a show or I haven't seen much of it, I have no interest whatsoever in reading what others are saying about it. The biggest reason is I don't want to accidentally spoil it. So unless I recognize a show, I don't even read the posts.
Discussions about ones I have seen and find interesting could be amusing, it's just a matter of how one would go about it.
I've never really bothered too much with reading the "my week in anime" (or even the "my week in movies") because it tends to feel like a personal log of stuff instead of a discussion-starter. For the most part this is because in order to discuss at all, one has to be watching the anime (or have watched the movie) in question, and . . . well.
On the immediate level, if people aren't watching the same shows, there probably won't be a lot of discussion to be had. On a deeper level, I personally tend not to get heavy into discussion of a show/series until it's run its course, or at least gone on longer than two seasons. (Farscape or Stargate would be prime examples.) And the deeper discussion is what I would be more inclined to pursue, since I tend not to place too much stock in surface stuff like "I like the art" or "I hope they don't do anything stupid".
Also taste has something to do with discussion. Like, say, mine versus Desbreko's. I don't deal well with gratuitous twelve year old girls. (Although I am still going to give Excel Saga a try when I can finish downloading it. I'll just . . . skip the opening a lot. But I skipped the Big O opening a lot. =P)
Which World would the finished results be posted on?
Already told this to you in Chat, but just to clarify for everyone else: I would make a Word dedicated to all this, and everyone who participates in discussions would be guest posters.
Well, it definitely doesn't have to be a debate at all. If people want to debate, that is more than fine, but the discussions would work however the two (or whoever) people make them work. If you and Shishou were to, say, discuss certain aspects of art that appeal to you in a particular manga, then that would be a perfectly acceptable article, I think.
Which World would the finished results be posted on? I'll admit that the idea intrigues me; when I have time on my side once more, I'd like to join in on it.
Who knows, maybe even those user-created chatrooms can be a place to bounce ideas of one another: Gasaraki "The Sociology of Then and Now. Of course, some of the more esoteric stuff would be more focused, if sent as PM's. Whatever the case, I'm interested in this, so I'll try and stop in more often.
I'd love to engage with Mr. Kastom's ideas on certain philosophical themes in a given anime!
My friend Backlash Wave (now Inphinity) and I did something like this way back in the Age of the Articles. We had several discussion-like articles, looking at some things like what you are talking about. For instance we had a talk about the politics about Gundam SEED, and some of the overall nature that the series held.
It was really fun, so if some people want to do this, I'd be up for it myself. I love doing debates/discussions, especially on series that involve deep philosophy.
And Roundtables is a pretty good name I'd have to say.

That sounds like fun. I don't know how well I'd do on it, since I'm not very good at debates and whatnot, but I'm sure people could get into it. I know there are loads of anime fans who would really love it. x3
