Maybe ask him what the reason is so that way you know and aren't left wondering why. It might not have anything to do with you and everything to do with himself.
Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean it didn't mean anything. It doesn't mean there has to be a problem with you.
It's something that happens, and it hurts like hell, but in the end, he wasn't the right person for you. He's leaving so you can find the real person you can spend the rest of your life with.
