Welcome to my world.

I'm SomeGuy, 29 years old, residing in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've studied English Literature, Chinese Martial Arts, and am currently pursuing careers in writing - possibly even in the anime industry itself.

And I work for this site.

And you should be watching Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.
Or watching Ranma 1/2.
Or learning about the Shinsengumi.
Or planning to visit Vancouver, The Best Place On Earth (actual marketing motto).

Here at the "Smallville" page, I have my personal blog where I'll post about anything and everything. If ya need me or otherwise need to know anything from/about me, here's where I'll be.

If you're really looking for my more professional, site-type stuff, you wanna head over my "Metropolis" world.

Back home . . .

So I ended up going camping with Shadowlight's family all weekend and just got home on Monday. That was extremely amusing.

So yeah. That probably explains where I've been, eh? Back to work, back to work . . . so let's see . . . . .

Podcast is in progress right now, Kei's brand new Otaku Attraction world is up and running (shall need to make a louder plug later, I think), and I have . . . 31 Fan Words to process.

Dang.

Still haven't written my Monday writing thing either. Eep. I should really just write a quick little thing now . . . which reminds me . . .

Who the heck was it who wanted to do a Tuesday post and only asked me in the chat instead of making a hardcover message I could get somewhere else? 'Cause I'd love to add you, y'know.

Other than that, things are going well enough. I'll tell you more about it later, perhaps.

Tchau!

DONE!!!

Fan Words are finally cleared out!!! Booyah! I think I probably went a little easier on a lot of them, didn't get nitpicky about things so long they were still spelt right and stuff like that. Emotes . . . yeah, I let those slide this time. Heh, here's hoping that doesn't become a habit.

Guess I have time to start writing up my con' reports, then. Got some more Shinsengumi to plug!

So other than that, been having tons of fun with Cat'.

-Convention all of last weekend.
-Japanese dinner, 3 Doors Down (along with Econoline Crush, Hinder and Staind) on Tuesday.
-PNE/Playland (think large annual fair and amusement park) all day in the rain, followed by drying off at home watching School Rumble in the evening.

She's going camping with some other cousins this weekend; they invited me to come as well, so I'll probably drive out on the Saturday to chill with them. Should be fun.

Yeah. This is easily one of the best summers evar.

Alright, Fan Words are chopped down to a feasible number now. Just got snagged on one really long deal that deserves some attention which I'm not giving it and I'll be back on top of my theO work!

Anyway, they were selling hats at the con' that I thought people here would find interesting:

Seem familiar? Hehe . . . yeah, I dunno either.

Anyway, going by the title, I've some videos to share with you guys!

Hijikata Breaks Character: Gintama cosplayer loses it after I told her "what a gay goat eats".

Ka Mate, Shinsengumi Style: Me performing a Maori haka for grins.

And finally: "Welcome to Anime Evolution 2008", a music video montage of the whole con as only Bon Jovi can express:

So long I don't get lazy (or too busy playing with Shadow'), I'll get my reports out and up soon. 'Til then!

Crap!!! 58 Fan Words?!?!

I've got a full inbox . . .

Anyway, con's done, and it was pretty good. Had some fun, promoted the Shinsengumi some more (I'll probably write a couple things about the Shinsengumi at Anime Evolution in the next little while), and got to see some people I hadn't seen in a while.

Certainly many, many things can be done better and the current feeling is that a lot of the executives running the show are not exactly doing all they can for the con'. As I've already mentioned, the Moonlight Ball was an absolute disaster for me and I'm currently glad to know I wasn't the only one who felt that way. It rained on Sunday too, which sucked.

I did have some good company, though, which was an insurmountable bonus. And yes, Catarina looks absolutely adorable in a yukata.

Anyway, I'll tell you guys all about it later so long I remember how. For now, though, I've got some homework to hammer down . . .

Quick post before Day 1 . . .

Catarina's going to her first con today!!!

Other than that, the Moonlight Ball was extremely disappointing. I'm literally quite choked up about it. Here's my post to the AE forums:

I'm glad everyone had fun this year and I'm glad that we were able to raise so much money for charity. That's awesome.

That said . . .

The Moonlight Ball was extremely disappointing for me. I had fun, no doubt, but I also left around the same time we had the vote-by-acclamation on whether we wanted "slow songs" or "more fast stuff!". People enjoy the fast dance music, I can appreciate that that's what people like and I won't make a deal about that. But considering all the planning over the past year . . .

Considering how all year there was a strict dress code being hammered into the forums that was supposed to help create a formal, traditional kind of dance atmosphere to the point that members on the forum were being upset that they were now not dressed formally enough to even enter the ballroom . . .

Considering a dance instructor was hired to teach a basic dance step and did so for the better part of an hour to begin with . . .

Considering all the time encouraging forum members to suggest music for the ball (something I had spent a lot of time trying to do and had gotten all kinds of thanks for caring about this event and whatnot from the planners and execs') . . .

Considering all the work done for the paper origami flowers to enhance the overall style to everything . . .

Considering all of that . . . . . by 10pm the Anime Evolution 2008 Moonlight Ball turned into a rave. And yes, people certainly enjoyed this rave and I don't fault anyone for that . . . but if that was the case, then why bother with any of this? Why bother to dress up nice for the one night of the convention where we get to dress up nice and do a different kind of dance that only gets so much time in the convention anyway? Why ask us all for song ideas for the dance only to hear only one suggested song the entire night (and that only happened because I requested it specifically - and yes, I did appreciate that, don't get me wrong).

And yes, I did have fun at the ball. When the "Mortal Kombat" theme came out, I was more than happy to hit some random kung-fu moves for fun (though granted, doing them in a tuxedo probably hurt me more than not). That was enjoyable. But I think the fact that the theme from "Mortal Kombat" was played at all at a ballroom dance kinda goes back to my "why?" question.

So what does this mean for next year? Do people actually want a ballroom dance at AE? Would people just be happier to have another rave instead? Should we just scrap it altogether? 'Cause if this year's ball was supposed to be improved from last year's, I think the improvements went in the wrong direction. 'Cause I really enjoy ballroom dancing. It's fun, it's different, and there are really only so many times I get to do it. The fact that they take place at a convention I've been supporting just makes the overall con experience that much more enjoyable for me. I was absolutely looking forward to this dance this entire year, and I hate that I left at 10:30pm shaking my head.

But yeah. It's great to hear that everyone had a good time.

On the plus side, TseUq was there and it was great to see her again. Funny enough, so was "The Girl" (if anyone remembers her). We got some good dances in before she left (and before everything went to hell). She's doing well for herself at a software company right now and said she'd see if her workplace is looking for technical writers. That's a plus. Nice to be on good terms with people you haven't seen for a couple years, hey?
