Welcome to my world.

I'm SomeGuy, 29 years old, residing in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've studied English Literature, Chinese Martial Arts, and am currently pursuing careers in writing - possibly even in the anime industry itself.

And I work for this site.

And you should be watching Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.
Or watching Ranma 1/2.
Or learning about the Shinsengumi.
Or planning to visit Vancouver, The Best Place On Earth (actual marketing motto).

Here at the "Smallville" page, I have my personal blog where I'll post about anything and everything. If ya need me or otherwise need to know anything from/about me, here's where I'll be.

If you're really looking for my more professional, site-type stuff, you wanna head over my "Metropolis" world.

SomeGuy's Annual Elections!

My dad's birthday is today. For the most part, that won't really mean anything to you.

What that does signal to me, however, is that his comes a few days before mine (I think they were actually trying to nail the same date or something way back when . . . but that's not important). That said . . . it's that time of year again!

We're down to seven potential future Dorama!Onizuka avatars for the next year! Which shall I use? As always, the one with the most votes shall be my avatar for the year. Don't let me down!

Choose wisely . . . the results shall be made official come Thursday . . .

Brand New Goddamn Batman

Picked up "Batman: Under The Red Hood" after work today:

This is a frickin' sweet Batman movie. If you know your lore (especially regarding your Jason Todd), you're gonna get a huge kick out of this. The fights are gorgeous, the story's epic and super-emotional, and there's some really sweet bonus stuff on the disc like a preview for next month's DC animated film.

And if that doesn't sell you on it: Neil Patrick Harris as Nightwing. Or John DiMaggio as Joker.

So yeah. Good movie. Watch it.

Archers are strong mofos . . .

Was back at the ancestral home in New West for dinner the other night. Speaking of which: WE WON! Thanks again, guys!

Anyway, while my laundry was washing, my brother pulled out his new baby he picked up recently: a brand new compound bow to fuel his archery hobby. Slick little thing that he more or less got for half price after trading in his old bow and some other stuff. But yeah, very slick, very nice looking - and from what he told me when he gave it a go on the range, it was also very precise.

It also had a 60 pound draw-weight. That's a rather solid draw weight that's about as high as most average modern bows will dare to go. This is also the weight at which killing deer and moose is possible.

And yeah. I couldn't draw it. Those particular back and shoulder muscles just haven't been developed enough for me to use bows of that kind of pull.

And then I felt shame.

I guess I'll stick to swords.

READ NOW! Time is of the essence!

My hometown needs your help!

The Kraft Celebration Tour is making its way across Canada, and is going to make ten specific stops at ten lucky communities along the way. If chosen, each stop will get a $25,000 community refresh from Kraft (the mac' & cheese folks) to help build or upgrade a community centre or location. There will also be a live SportsCentre broadcast from the location documenting the tour.

Choices are made via online votes for one city or another. I speak on behalf of the final stop: New Westminster, BC (my home town) vs Nelson, BC.

Voting ends Saturday/tomorrow/today 9am Pacific time.

My friends here at theOtaku.com, it would mean the world to me if you could help my hometown fix up its Youth Centre with the international vote. It'd take all of a few seconds (unless you tried voting more) to give 'er a click over here:

Prior to moving out to the city-proper of Vancouver, I lived in New Westminster for 20 years of my life. I have no memories of my birth town of Kelowna, and most of my memories living in Edmonton are short and spotty. No matter where I end up, New Wesminster will always be my city, and for those of you who have seen it first hand, you know it's a pretty special little place with some neat small-town character in the middle of the sprawling metropolis that is Metro Vancouver.

(We also have the world's largest Tin Soldier. Just sayin'.)

If you've caught this message before 9am Pacific time and voted for New West, 58,000 people will be super appreciative. Please help us out!

PS. And yes, do feel free to ballot-stuff. I don't think they mind.

Well, I'm awake . . .

So every now and then, as expected with an apartment complex, I wake up in the late Saturday afternoon to hear crying children. It's not unexpected. Children cry, and when they do, it's loud.

That said, I also know that since my building is water heated, I'm never going to hear this stuff through air ducts or anything. So it's all pure windows and through the walls/floors if you hear your neighbours.

Well, this morning one particular pissed off kid was freaking out, and his mother was giving him hell, potentially beating the heck out of him too (heh, asians). Went on from about 10am to 10:20, I'd reckon (it's about 10:20 right now).

So imagine my surprise when I went up to my bedroom window and suddenly realized the screaming was coming not from my building, but from across the back lane! The screaming was from the next block over!

Damn, kid. You's gots some lungs. Also, reminded me of a line from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (such a good show!):

Martha: "I never spanked you. I never had to. But right now, I'd like to drop your britches and tan your hide like cheap leather."

Guess I'll start breakfast, then . . . pretty sure I still have some bacon hiding somewhere . . .

EDIT: Cooking bacon without shirt or socks on? Ouch. Bacon, I love you, so why must you zap me with your flaming grease?
