Hello,
I stopped by to ask something of you... One is I was told and I read here in your post that you are in care of the Fan Words here...
When I joined the new O I did it just because I write and I love to do so and liked the way it was set up for the posting of them... But since I am so use to the HTML coding, when I post one of my stories in my World I submitted it on accident to you while it was still a major MESS... Well once I got it all straighted out I resubmitted it to you all, and it was rather close to the mess I sent as well... I was hoping it was not over looked as another mess or someone thinking it was a bug and got sent twice the first time... I was just wondering so if I needed to resend it I could...
Please let me know if there has been problems there or if you have even seen the Story and if it was still a mess when I resent it. I would like to get it to you the way it sets now. I am sure the story will be a hit with all the readers... The Story was called 'Betrayal By Blood' and Peacemaker was the anime used for it.
This will almost sound silly, but in all honesty there has been so much going on, I'm not fully clear on what fan words entails. I did read Adam's update on the main part of theO before the change, but now you can't get there. So I assume that includes reviews? Or how about fiction that isn't anime based but rather original sci-fi content? I know I'd like a short list to understand just what is included. ^_~ If you don't mind giving me a review that is. I would greatly appreciate it if you could.
I think I should clarify that's not my personal view on the matter. I'm lucky to even submit one piece every few months if that, so the submission cap hasn't put the squeeze on me at all, and probably won't. I studied theatre throughout high school, so I understand the human element in different ways than most people do, and I can see people with personalities a few paces beyond mine (I'm the first to admit I'm impolite, insensitive, and a little confrontational, but there are people worse than me out there) seizing on that and running with it. A lot of people reporting the submission cap as a bug seem to have missed a key piece of information back before the Version Vibrant launch, and that was Adam saying it would be a temporary thing so that any bugs in the system could be found and fixed without the system being overloaded. If the cap remains, I would hope for the sake of the visual artists that it's at least raised so they can submit more at one time.
That's exactly why there's a small list of contributors with consecutive postings in Fan Words right now, but you know that's actually a good thing. It helps the article writers bring their older material back into the light, and it gives the Fan Words hub a solid foundation to grow from. A lot of aspiring writers will probably read through posted Fan Words to get an idea of how to write something that'll have a better chance of being accepted. As more and more people submit material that's acceptable, that consecutive postings thing will diminish. I've been thinking about pulling up an older piece I wrote a few years back myself. I'm still debating that in my head (actually, I'm having trouble finding the original file I saved it in ).
I completely agree, SomeGuy. Now I know who to blame, though. *whacked* I'm kidding, kidding...
You know, someone's going to see more than one Fan Words entry by someone and it'll strike that chord of "how come writers get special treatment and can submit more than one work while us artists can only submit one?"
My smart-ass reply to that is "we got the shaft for two years, so we're making up for lost ground". My intelligent response to that is...well, I'm not sure. I'm kind of annoyed by the cap of one when it comes to submissions. I recall most people agreed three was a fair number.
I know this sounds asshole-ish, but here it is: Adam has claimed he's not an artist, yet he's making these decisions for people who do something he doesn't do himself. I am an artist - that's my pride at school. I am also used to having multiple projects running at once, and as such, I'm used to submitting multiple art pieces to DeviantArt. So it's like...I'm just not sure. I don't exactly agree with it, but i don't quite disgree with it either...Gah.
As SomeGuy said, a lot of us are posting up old articles to re-establish ourselves to the community. We've been lost to a [as strange as it is to say this] whole generation of Otakuites. Suddenly granted the power to make a name for ourselves, we're feeling a bit overwhelmed with it all - at least, I am. What to write, what to submit? The easy way to at least put our foot in the door is to submit old pieces. I've done it once, with a piece that was near and dear to me [as well as well-received]. I'm thinking of doing it with another popular yet heated debate piece, however, that one would be totally gutted and re-worked due to the changing years [two].
There are a couple major points I really want to make right now, but being a civilized dragon, I know when leave something well enough alone. I will part with one thing though:
Whoawhoawhoa . . . let's hold up a second, I think we had a miscommunication here . . .
So alright, two things:
1. I'm fully aware of the waning benefits of the university Bachelor's Degree. In terms of future work and career, it doesn't nearly carry as much weight as it once did and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding himself.
2. I'm extremely proud of my Bachelor's Degree. Regardless of where it ultimately gets me in the future, I worked hard for it, learned a great deal while earning it, and have never regretted the five years I spent getting it. Could I have gotten a similar education for far less money elsewhere? Possibly. Could I be getting the very same jobs with a less-expensive college certificate or something? Absolutely. Does that mean I should immediately hate myself for wasting my time and shitting on my piece of glorified toilet paper? Nuh uh. Not gonna happen.
We really don't need to go here. Not once did I think to make myself sound better than anyone else here, nor was my intention ever to egg anyone into such a rant. I will most definitely be saddened if you do feel this requires a rant in response. It's a shame that you took my words as such and I'll definitely be saddened if this does indeed prompt a rant in response. I can, however, promise that should that be the case, I wouldn't argue the point further.
I have to agree, new responsibilities are a great thing. They allow a person to demonstrate their capabilities.
Wow, you're bold, that's all I'm going to say.
Learning what fits the criteria might prove to be an adventure, but that's part of the experience. Don't rush yourself through trying to learn and you should get it easily.
Moving on.
You know, I'm surprised someone hasn't brought up the submission limits yet. You know, someone's going to see more than one Fan Words entry by someone and it'll strike that chord of "how come writers get special treatment and can submit more than one work while us artists can only submit one?" Seeing multiple entries by the same writer does present the appearance of a bias, but that doesn't mean there is one there. As more people figure out what makes a Worlds post a prime candidate for Fan Words (and they get over that posted rejection rate there - yikes!), more people will submit more works, and then there will be less of that multiple posting by the same author deal.
Well, maybe someone should ask Adam about adding an explanation of the "Nominate for Publishing" checkbox to the submission guidelines. I can't cause last I checked, mine was the only comment to it asking about the "Post types". It would do some good to get that out there in multiple places as to what makes a work a candidate for Fan Words publishing.
I saw that world, don't believe I've commented on it yet though. Will keep my eyes on it.
...I've got a fancy piece of paper from some expensive school that proves I know stuff. You really don't want me to go into my rant about glorified toilet tissue. It's not pleasant or comfortable to be on the receiving end, at least that's the vibe I get from the people who have that piece of paper and egg me on to rant.
Opening up a community to help writers improve and all that, a very noble cause. I'm not nearly the best writer in the world, but people tell me I'm good, so if you want my twisted mind's input, I'm not hard to find.

Can do, mod-boss. Next post. But I'll be out clubbing tonight, so it won't be my usual "right at 9pm Pacific Time" like usual.
