Ahh.. How I would love to put some fics up here myself... One day perhaps.. Just need a home computer.. Oh well, I'll practice in my notebook till that day comes. ^_^ Sweeney Todd. Damn, I need that cd.. Love that movie!
Sounds like it could be a driver issue. Can you boot into safe mode? If so you might be able to uninstall the update or use the system restore tool (if you're running XP or Vista) to revert things.
Nope, skips the blue screen and goes right to a black one that says something like "the computer did not boot up correctly, possibly due to a change in hardware or software, as such it will not start up now."
Paraphrasing, of course. In any case, I'm pissed and this is gonna eat up a lot of my Thursday.
And the podcasters probably won't even have captions next week, as if they didn't have enough gaps in the program as is!

Is it really dead or do you get a blue screen of death upon booting? If it's the latter, I'd take a look around Microsoft's support pages and see what you can find related to the error it gives you. I've heard of issues that can come up during/after updates and most of them that I've seen have possibly been fixable (at least for Windows 2000 and XP).
Good luck in trying to resurrect that heap. That is a big pain, I know. However, software problems can sometimes be resolved, rather than hardware problems which is a bigger pain.
When all else fails, haul that harddisk out of that PC and stick it somewhere which might work.
I guess I must be lucky since I never seem to have issues with my computer. I'm sure it will happen one of these days though.^^ Best of luck getting yours fixed.

@Desbreko:
Yeah, wasn't able to do that either, unfortunately.
But yeah, I'm bringing it in now. Sucks, but y'know . . . I don't have the necessary powers myself.

Computer crap-outs are the pits, especially when you have things to do that can't be done on other machines.
Bazinga!
