Welcome to my world.

I'm SomeGuy, 29 years old, residing in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've studied English Literature, Chinese Martial Arts, and am currently pursuing careers in writing - possibly even in the anime industry itself.

And I work for this site.

And you should be watching Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.
Or watching Ranma 1/2.
Or learning about the Shinsengumi.
Or planning to visit Vancouver, The Best Place On Earth (actual marketing motto).

Here at the "Smallville" page, I have my personal blog where I'll post about anything and everything. If ya need me or otherwise need to know anything from/about me, here's where I'll be.

If you're really looking for my more professional, site-type stuff, you wanna head over my "Metropolis" world.

Year of the Rabbit, Bitches!

Totally posted this video last year, but it makes me laugh so we'll post it again!

Gong Hei Fat Choi, ladies and gents (and Gong Xi Fa Cai to everyone speaking the weird version). Happy Chinese New Year, happy year of the rabbit, long life, lots of luck and wealth and prosperity (probably) and so on.

I'mma just prep myself for a weekend of lion dances and death in the meantime.

And who knows, maybe the good new year stuff was just waiting for firecracker smoke in my face before coming around?

I guess we'll find out.

Also, someone remind me I wanna blog about eastern/western learning methods next time. I wanted to do that, but Chinese New Year has delayed that.

February 14th . . .

It's the, Year of the Tiger
In two thousand and ten,
Going out to dance with lions and a dragon,
Here in, Metro Vancouver
We're performing again,
So we'll bring you good luck in the yeeeeeeeear!
Of the Tiger!

(Song parody mostly stolen from Mr East. What can I say, it was brilliant)

Happy Chinese New Year! Gong Hei Fat Choi! I wish you all tons of luck in this Year of the Tiger. Myself, I'll be down in Richmond doing my lion dance thang as usual, Aberdeen Centre and then Richmond Centre. I'm gonn' be tired . . . also, my wrists are already shot from the past two days alone. Such is Chinese New Year for us . . .

Also . . .

Happy Valentine's Day as well. Kiss 'em if ya got 'em.

Cold As Balls . . .

Chinese New Year was a very, very cold day.

Morning, gotta rush out to meet at the club to pack lions, dragons and drums and stuff into a rental truck. I wasn't thinking much, and I only grabbed the club sweater and no other jackets on top of that.

Or gloves. Or anything else of that nature.

It was rather frosty today. Got to the club to get stuff into the truck. Also quite chilly.

By the time we got to the mall to do our thang . . . well, we were better from riding in cars and whatnot . . .

. . . but then we found out that the performance stage was going to be an OUTDOOR deal so they could use firecrackers.

Eff.

Also, out dragon is mounted on metal poles.

Eff.

At least things got warmer inside once we started doing the lettuce-around-the-mall thing. Except our route was really convoluted and we ended up doing a lot of circles going to the different shops and stuff. That was stupid.

Buuuut, that was done, and considering how much of a total wing-job the entire performance was, it wasn't bad.

So naturally we weren't finished for the day, and had to drive out to a Honda dealership to do a lion dance for them as well.

Outside.

Eff.

Once I got home, I even found the back door open - possibly because someone was walking back and forth earlier, possibly because it's a Chinese New Year good luck thing to open doors and windows and stuff. Either way, draft comin' down the stairs.

Eff.

Other than that, plowed through over half of the long over due pile of Fan Words (it got up to 80!) where naturally most of them never should have been "nominated" in the first place. Or something.

So yeah. The Year of the Ox is thus far a frighteningly cold one. Also, apparently it's not just the Year of the Ox, it's the "Year of the Golden Ox".

Go fig. Whatever. Gong hei fat choi again, fellows.

Eff.
