Well, that was new . . .

Spent the evening at my mom's house again trying to acquire bits of cardboard and such to wrap my older brother's birthday present (a splitting axe - apparently they plan on doing a lot of camping in the next few years). Hung out, watched some TV including "The Pacific", uploaded another convention vid' . . . did some shopping and such . . . decent Sunday at home.

Later that night, my little brother got home limping a little and cursing. Apparently during his hockey game he blocked a shot with his foot and in turn had a distinct case of black toenail coming along nicely.

For those of you unfamiliar, imagine a bruise that's happening underneath your toenail. Instead of just colouring everything a beautiful black and blue, it also ends up putting a great deal of pressure on the nail itself as the blood fills up underneath. Left unattended, this can actually make the toenail fall off.

So I held a flashlight and introduced idle chat with my brother while he lanced his toe through the nail with a lighter-cured pin or something-rather. He actually ended up boring three holes through his nail through which blood could drain.

Well, gotta hand it to him, it worked. Blood squeezed/drained out 'til it mostly ran clear, his nail went back to its normal colour, and he seemed especially relieved about the whole deal with chimes of "oh that feels so much better!" and the like. Afterwards he washed it, antisepticed it and bandaged it.

So that was kinda interesting. My brother put a triangle of pinholes through his big toenail. Also, apparently it doesn't hurt nearly as much as you might imagine. Good times.

In other less squicky news, here's a cute video of a young cosplayer fast becoming famous in Seattle - and yes, I do take a little bit of responsibility for that:

Now that that's done, I think my dumplings are ready to eat!
