well to stop them from getting on your bed and stuff, try drawing chalk around it, ants cannot walk over chalk. Used to have fun trapping them XD

On a singular note, the ants are not being woken up by warmth as the house is most likely colder on the inside then it is on the outside.

Ooooh awkward. Perhaps the warmth of the house woke them up early so they decided to move in? I dislike killing ants too, they are so interesting! My sister had an ant nest in a tank for a while. Or she tried to. She caught a queen and waited for her to lay eggs, but I think she ended up dying...
I hope you can sort something out. My neighbours used to pour boiling water on ant nests :[ I always thought that was un-neccesary. But if they are INSIDE then I don't know what to do. Just be careful not to leave any food out!
Wow, I have no idea what to tell to help you... Of course I could say to buy sprays against them, but you said yourself that you don't want poison, so... I had two ant problems here too, and we used spray against them and after that they went all of them self, figuring that it is dangerous to be there, I guess.
The most problem that I had was with flies. I had a queen in my flat and every day there were like fifty of them. -_-'
I hope that you will find the best solution for you problem!! I also wish that if you can, to find a way to get rid of them without killing them, but that is a little hard.

Aghh.. in your hair. Ugh.. *shivers* I hate that too, though it is better than down your shirt. Box elder beetles do that. I HATE them!
I've only had problems with ants like yours in Costa Rica. They came in because it is dry in your house and wet outside. We closed the windows soon after a rainstorm if the weather was going to stay wet. That helped a lot. Also, in some places, they came out during night no matter what. Then, we just ignored them. They didn't TRY to attack us. Good luck controlling your mess, Matt.

I've heard oatmeal works. just plain uncooked oatmeal. Apprently they can't digest it so when the give it to teh queen she dies and then they all die.
Work back in NE at least...
