Holy crap. It's July already!
Do you ever just stop and think about where you were one year ago?
One year ago, I was back at Augie, my old college, living in a house with two of my bestest friends. I was working at the library (yay!) and Walmart (boo!). It was good, and I loved my friends and was having a great time. I'd work 9 to 3:30 at the library and go to work at Walmart until 9. I'd come home and my roommate and I would either watch an episode of Firefly or Castle. I think July was Castle.
I had great friends, but I didn't really hang out with a lot of them. I just ate supper with them and the occasional movie night or something. We took for granted that I'd just be able to see them whenever. So, we never really scheduled anything.
Since then, I've moved out, transferred schools, considered dropping out, worked at Gordmans and a Golf course, found out my dad had cancer, again, quit Gordmans to work at US Bank, worked three jobs, quit Walmart, got into a car accident, and made amazing friends.
The time I was Augie feels like a lifetime ago. Doesn't feel like only a year. After having moved out, I got to see and experience what it was like to have friends. I mean, I had friends in high school, but after we graduated, I never made an effort to contact them, and they didn't with me, either. I felt like I was the back up friend. So, to leave the school and my friends and for them to make an effort to hang out with me, to see me, to text me was a whole new experience. It wasn't just my close roommates that did this, but it was each of the dozen of friends I've made at Augie. Each one has gone out of their way to hang out with me and to strengthen our relationships. It's so nice to know that this is what friendship is.
So much has changed in a year.
What's changed for you?
Did anyone doing anything for gay Pride in Minneapolis this weekend? I was sadly unable to attend.
Though, I did get in an argument with someone on why homosexuals are as much of people as heterosexuals. It really infurates me when people thing that gays aren't "normal" or "regular" people.
Why the fuck aren't they?
This person was saying that gays should never have kids.
So, two people who love each other and decide that they are ready and go through the long, hard process of adopting a child shouldn't? They are only deciding to adopt when they are ready, when they truly want kids.
But, it's okay when a sixteen year old dropout who is doing tons of drugs and sleeping with four different men has a kid? According to society, it is. I mean, there's a fucking show.
I find that latter more grotesque and wrong.
I just wish people could open their eyes and see the world for how it is truly supposed to be.
Some of my best friends are gay. And that's okay. I love them.
