Even if part of this is your fault (and I am NOT saying it is), you need to stop blaming yourself. Alright, it's done, damage done, now it's time to clean up the mess.
If you know you'd be fine if Joe would leave you alone, yet he keeps texting you, then just ignore him. Ignore Rich too, if it helps, but ignore Joe, at least until you can figure out how to change the situation.
I don't have experience dealing with this kind of stuff, but I think it would be in everyone's best interest if everyone involved were to peacefully get together in neutral territory so you can talk it all out. That way, nobody is being excluded, nothing is left to be said behind another person's back, there is no risk of misunderstanding because you are all witnesses to what each other says.
That seems like a good starting point.
Above all, you HAVE to do something before someone does anything else they'll regret. Not just you, but Joe and Rich too. And anyone else involved.
