Oh yes, I know it's a chemical imbalance. About half of the people that I know are depressed have to take meds because they won't get better without. But, they still need something positive in their life to keep them from falling even farther into despair. Positivity isn't the solution for most people, but it can really help.
What I've learned is that sometimes it isn't what's going on in your life at the moment (although that can contribute) but some people are generally more susceptible to it. It's a chemical imbalance. To deal with mine I have to be very careful about what I eat and get plenty of exercise.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
