I did a lot of research on this one, actually. It can take awhile to heal to, from what I've read, to actually be able to change out the jewelry, but it doesn't seem so bad in the pain scale healing wise. And I did look up that I wanted it on my upper navel.
I appreciate all of your help, and if I get it, you will be the first one to know! :)
oooh nice. Those are just lovely, and you're right, that would be a positive thing to show love and acceptance of your body. I wanted to get one at a few points in life. There's a few variation of it to consider; above the belly button, below it, and it all depends on what you prefer and what jewelry you wanna wear in it.
That's something you'd probably wanna look up. Becuase if you just want a stud with maybe a jewel on it, or a bar, both work pretty well. But if you want one of those more decorative pieces that most likely has a curved bar and some jewels or chains or the like hanging down, if you're that kind of girl, the upper/above the belly button piercing is better for you.
With that though it's probably better to go with that one, the upper. (the one most people thing of when they hear 'navel piercing' because you can just do more with it like that. The studs, bars, and dangly things. With the lower there's less options and things can just look odd in it.
Plus it's a pretty classy piercing that most people don't have any problem with. It can be pretty hot and it certainly doesn't scream trashy. And as you get older if you want to take it out, it's no prob. It wouldn't leave a mark and even if it did, who the hell would notice?
So yeah, tl;dr, it's great, but research what you want and browse and see what jewelry you like :)
(damn that's a long comment)
Ya , I'm pretty excited abou t it. And now I'm toying with the idea of a navel piercing. I've always wanted one but thought I was too fat. And I figure what a better way to prove to myself that I love who I am than to get something I've always wanted and push that stereotype out of my head. What's your take on navel piercings?
For the two piercings, in a realistic approach, the triple helix is better. Honestly, it's classier, can be very pretty, and I've only heard good things about it.
For the industrial, the healing is a bitch (you've said you're good woth pain, so that's good) and everyone I've known whose gotten one has told me that sleeping with one is a huge problem. Apparently you just CAN'T sleep on the side that has it, and if you do, it usually starts bleeding and swelling, which slows healing time even more. While I personally love the look of the piercing, I've heard a lot of employers frown upon them. Sort of breaks some sort of dress code or is thought of as unsanitary in some work enviroments. Or it's not very acceptable in classier or professional enviroments, presentation and all that. But if you're not going to work in a more professional enviroment, I wouldn't worry about it:P
So...my vote it in for the triple helix! So cool! :D
I have a high pain tolerance, so I think I'll be okay. And as long as I follow the piercer's instructions on how to keep my piercing clean, I'll be okay. It's the year long healing process I don't look forward to. Ugh.
I've had my cartilage pierced before. It wasn't that bad. The worst is the conch, rook, and daith are worse than the industrial, and if my friend whose pain tolerance isn't very high can handle it, so can I. The only thing I don't look forward to is the the year it will take to heal. That's a lot of months not sleeping well until I can put pressure on that ear. But oh, well.
I've seen several girls at my school with the industrial piercing, and it looks okay. I think it depends on what kind of barbell you get as far as aesthetics go. Be mindful that the industrial piercing can take up to a year to heal and is considered one of the most painful piercings out there.
