Not all employers will do that for you, but I know some do. It's not that they're laying off people because they're incompetent. It's solely because they are taking away departments, but they're offering new ones to try and balance it out.

That's really nice that they're trying to help you guys get new jobs.
Is that a normal thing for employers to do, to lay you off but say, "Oh, we'll help you get a job in a different department, though!"

No, they are being very open and honest about the whole thing and seem to really want to help all of us find new departments within the same building.

That really sucks. I'm sorry. Did they just do it without any explanation?

I know. Everything was going really well lately. But this is just a bump in the road. Hopefully I'll be hired into a different department at the same place and it won't be a huge deal.
