Today on Starfleet Forumdock, the topic is all about Star Trek Into Darkness, the second film in J.J. Abrams' theatrical Star Trek film series. Yes, you're invited to share your thoughts about the movie itself, that is if you have seen the movie yet. I happened to enjoy the film when seeing it on 5/19/2013, despite a few unexpected parts, and felt it took things up the notch for the film series itself. Anyway, here are some questions you may want to think about as you take part in the forum discussion: What did you like about the film? What you hate about it (if there are any aspects you dislike)? Would you say it brought further advancement to J.J. Abrams' revamp of Star Trek, or would you say it brought ruin? What are your thoughts about John Harrison as a villain? What are your thoughts about the character development of James T. Kirk and his crew within the film? Is it among the best Star Trek movies you have seen so far (if you have seen any of the previous 11 so far of course)?
Remember, since the movie is in being shown in theatres, please make sure to use the spoiler function to hide any spoiler details of the movie mentioned in your commentary from online public viewing so as to not spoil things up for those who have not yet seen the film but are still interested in watching.
Today's topic on Starfleet Forumdock is for all those gamer-types. I am sure at least some of you Trekkers reading this have taken the time to play the new video game Star Trek: The Video Game, where you play Captain James T. Kirk or his executive officer Spock while the game itself centers around the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701's mission to New Vulcan, with the Gorn as the villains. Anyway, I am open to hearing your comments about what the gameplay is like since I never played the video game myself. You can also talk about what you find to be the game's ups and downs, and whether you find this worth trying out, even in comparison/contrast to previous Star Trek video games.
Check out the trailer for Star Trek: The Video Game, scheduled for release on April 23, 2013.
In this video game, set after the events in 2009's Star Trek movie, you play Captain James T. Kirk or his XO Commander Spock during the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701's mission to the Vulcan people's new home planet New Vulcan with the villains of the game itself being the Gorn, a repitilain race last seen in Star Trek: Enterprise. In case some of you reading this post are new to the Star Trek experience, the comedic fight scene in this trailer is a nod to the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Arena", which featured the Gorn's debut.
I know this is not news from today, but I just found this out. On Saturday Sept. 8, which happened to be the day marking the 46th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, numerous web sources indicated that parmaount Pictures had finally decided on what to title the upcoming 12th Star Trek movie, scheduled for release next year. Though the premise is still not yet annoucned, the title of the film will be "Star Trek Into Drakness". We should expect to see a trailer for this film in a matter of a months.
In the beginning, IDW Publishing launched an ongoing comic book titled simply "Star Trek" with the plan to re-imagine the events all episodes of the original "Star Trek" T.V. series for the timeline introduced in the 2009 film "Star Trek" while being a sequel to the film itself. According to StarTrek.com, this comic book series will be taking a break from re-imagining events of the classic T.V. series in March 2012 to feature a two-part story called "The Vendetta Conspiracy", in which the Vulcan people who survived the destruction of their homeworld by the crew of the Romulan ship Narada in the 2009 ST film find themselves split in two sides: those who are just trying to move on to safer times and those thirsty for revenge against the Romulans. This story will be told in Issues 7 and 8 of IDW's ongoing "Star Trek".
Also in March, the IDW ongoing comic book series "Star Trek" will have its first six issues collected in its first tradepaperback volume. Issues 1-2 are based on "Where No Man Has Goen Before" (the 2nd pilot episode filmed for the original "Star Trek" series), Issues 3-4 based on original "Star Trek" series episode "The Galileo Seven", and issues 5-6 based on the series' season 1 finale episode "Operation: Annihilate!".
