Yeah, at NYAF I had to explain to him why I couldn't be on at night. He said I should sneak on anyway at the computers where I work...I could do that but there's always the chance they may not like me doing that and take away all my internet privileges...NOOOOO!!
Oh cripes...I hate when people use my icon. Often, others will tell the person to remove it since that's ElvesAteMyRamen's icon. Do you remember who it was? I'll kindly ask them to change it.
Maybe he didnt match you up with anyone, I think he found out that you didnt have enough time! XD
But I am even surprised your on, though when I checked another person is on with the same icon as you. :3

I am glad you put this up, I started to just say "What ever" when I was warned by a mod, but now if they do it less often then it might have some meaning.
Oh and happy belated birthday, even though I said it early, *is never on time for anything*

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! *sends a cake with bishies in it*
Adam yelled at me for never being in the chats but for a couple times. I love the chat but I'm just rarely home enough to be in there thanks to working nights. Boo. Those are good guidelines though and if you're a mod, certainly some responsibility is in order!
OMG! You're so old! :D [kidding] ^_^ Happy Birthday!
Hmmm, I saw that pm, I guess this happens after I've gone to bed? Since I haven't really seen joke warnings a whole lot. You guys cheat and stay up later than I do! XP
Anyway, see ya around. ^_^

Now as for the other, I did the same as others have mentioned, I moved it to my saved folder for future reference. I'm not on enough to see the joke warning that your talking about, but I can see how having that happen a lot would get rather old.
EDIT: Also, I'll say I agree with cutting back on joke warnings. I don't get offended at all when given a joke warning; in fact, I just shrug it off, which is the problem, really. Warnings have been used in that way so much that they are basically a joke now.
It's all those nad kickings from Des, you're become immune to the sting of being clobbered. Since I imagine that would be a whole lot worse. :p
My whole point though is that until now, no one has really come forth and said "stop using it as a joke" I have more than enough chat logs to look back and see that people found it amusing.
So no one came a long and said "hey, we really shouldn't be doing this" (until now). Plus the fact that freezing and kicking are temporary only added to the aura of "it's no big deal"
Part of why I'm stressing that no one is guilty, is I see what I consider an unreal expectation of perfection from people who moderate. The looking back and thinking they were in the wrong when the same people who complained, also laughed at other people when it happened to them.
It's my job to clarify things instead of expecting people to put the connection together. It may look utterly logical in hindsight, but like you said yourself, people were trying to have fun, in your case the older brother syndrome.
The key factor here is that there was no ill intent behind the joking around so again... I see no one as being guilty at this point.
And for the record, in my books, no one is guilty. The guidelines that each of you were given at the beginning were pretty slim and yet all moderators have taken up the task and in my opinion done an excellent job. In spite of having very little to go on other than common sense.
Ehh. Logic as well. The inclusion of a Warn function in the moderator capability list logically meant that it was to be used to inform members that they were crossing a line, and should probably go back if they didn't want anything further to happen. And incidentally, I also didn't use it at first, because I wanted the same impact.
I made the conscious decision to flout that logic in favor of indulging my tendencies as the "older brother", which is basically the "pick on people as often as possible" syndrome as well. And although I made that decision based on others' use of the function and how that would look in tandem with my usual persona, I still had recognised the intended purpose in the beginning, and therefore shouldn't have needed a set of explicit guidelines set down, since I had already understood the implicit ones.
If moderators were otherwise silent, then the Warn might carry more weight, since that would imply that the moderator was paying attention to the behavior of the member in question.
That's probably why members listen when I actually do warn them, since I so rarely use it. But then I want it to have impact so I don't use it on purpose.
I do believe that cessation of its abuse will gradually return some seriousness to the function, so my concern about it might well be needless. We'll see after us guilty people stop goofing off.
I'm hoping it becomes less of a joke, though I'm not holding my breath on that one. I'm more concerned about people taking it out of context since some fun is harmless, but I've gotten enough complaints that I think it was starting to become over done.
And for the record, in my books, no one is guilty. The guidelines that each of you were given at the beginning were pretty slim and yet all moderators have taken up the task and in my opinion done an excellent job. In spite of having very little to go on other than common sense.
It would be extremely unfair for me to take anyone to task over something that was never clarified in the first place. No one could predict that those functions would be used like a joke, and even those who complained, often found it humorous as well. So I don't see a serious issue at this point in time. I am however, looking at something that could become one so thus the update on the guidelines and the request to cut back.
Now if I had sent out the pm several weeks ago and people were still doing it like crazy then yes, I'd be pointing fingers. But that's not the case, this is more of a tweak in how the process was working.
Well, rogue in the sense that, as mods, they should conform to a certain level of mature, professional behavior.
But I see your point. ^^
Exactly. However, no one had given, or set, what that "level of maturity or professionalism expected" actually was. Chat has a more fuzzy line when it comes to what's considered acceptable.
Which is why it went on for as long as it did. And also why absoutely no one is in trouble, at all. I'm very much a stickler for being fair to both sides. ^_^

It's been my opinion for a while that the Warn function as it stands is really rather pointless; not that it's useless, but the same effect can be achieved by a mod simply telling a member to cool it, which has been done in the past. If moderators were otherwise silent, then the Warn might carry more weight, since that would imply that the moderator was paying attention to the behavior of the member in question.
Unfortunately, the options left are rather slim, since the Freeze function is the clear-cut "cool it now" warning shot. Suggesting any idea that would alter the Warn to resemble the Freeze too closely is obviously not a good idea . . . . but then again, I would still rather the Warn carry some weight to it, instead of being the gimmick-prone text line that it is currently.
I do believe that cessation of its abuse will gradually return some seriousness to the function, so my concern about it might well be needless. We'll see after us guilty people stop goofing off.
Well even though it's still the 30th... Happy Birthday Beth. ^_^ I hope you have a lot of fun tomorrow.
Also, thank you for the guidelines. Since I'm not a moderator at OtakuBoards, I was not aware of those guidelines. Well other than the keeping things at a PG level. I think the rest is pretty basic really, you're representing theOtaku so it's best to be careful that you don't go overboard with the joking around. Especially when you consider the age difference between some of the moderators and the actual members.
Anyway, I put that in my saved folder for pm's so I'll have it around to use as a reference if needed. ^_^

Considering that we had no set guidelines for the joking around, we have no rogue mods in my opinion. I don't take people to task for something when no one has asked them to do otherwise.
However, if said behavior were to continue now that I've made it clear that it needs to be reduced or outright abandoned, then I would consider someone to be in the wrong.
I have enough chat logs to know that there was never any intent to harass or pester other members. It's simply a joke that was starting to get out of hand.
