That actually is the case. KAngaskhan was the last intended form of cubone. Also if you look at other pokemon they can breed in their second stages. I think she had her baby cubone before she could evolve and then died later on. You do raise a good point though. I could be completely wrong also ^^;; I just know what I read.

There's also a species of African frog that can change genders as well (that is if Jurassic Park is to be believed, so I could be wrong about that).
Anyway, that's a new theory to me. It's plausible, though I do have a slight problem with it. In the first generation games, the player has to confront the ghost of a dead Cuebone's mother in order to advance further in the game. And the ghost of that Pokemon happens to be Cuebone's normal evolved form a Marowak (forgive me if I'm not spelling that right). Now if this theory were indeed the truth, wouldn't the ghost be a Kangaskhan instead? I mean I can see an infant Kangaskhan becoming a Cuebone and later evolving into a Marowak, but the ghost I mentioned being a mother Marowak doesn't quite track with the theory.
I'm not saying that the theory is completely inaccurate, I'm just pointing out that there's a fairly noticable hole in it. It could be though that Cuebone was originally intended to be the pre-evolved form of Kangaskhan, but for whatever reason a change was made.

The greatest fear is that of the unknown.
