It still makes me sooo happy that they get to be zucchinis!!!!!!! :DDD
Go asexual representation! They get to platonically love each other forever and ever ;_;
I think if she had experienced a normal childhood and grown up in a safe and loving home, she would want to fall in love and experience romance and all that jazz.
Instead she had very, very bad experiences as a child. As a result, the very thought of sex, or anything connected to it (such as romance), leaves her pretty much paralyzed in fear. She'd be okay with romantic actions if she knew they wouldn't lead anywhere, though.
Ah, I was just expecting the simple answer, but the context is really good to know too! :) And all of that makes sense.
Oh, another random question! Is Ash asexual as well, or does she feel romantic inclinations but chooses not to act on them? (Sorry for all these questions out of nowhere, haha;;;)
Oh my, your words are too kind! I'm really happy to hear that you like it, though. I've been super excited to share this latest Tommy-Ash development with everybody!
Haha, I'm glad you liked it! In response to your question, I'm going to go with asexual aromantic. While their relationship may advance to holding hands and sharing a hug or two, it would really be more in the context of best friends (think of middle school bffs, they're pretty huggy and touchy in a completely innocent way).
Anything they do beyond that (ie kissing) would be done as a show for other people. In private they just play board games and feed each other homemade food.
And neither would want it any other way. :)
...I hope that answered your question. I'm not sure if it did. Did I take a simple question and write a novel instead of an answer? Perhaps.

Oh my gosh, it's been a very real struggle ever since the idea of Tommy first made its way into the minds of three young girls riding a bus to a camp in the summer of 2008. We knew he and Ash would be together forever, but how would this come to be?
Would he be gay? He'd be betrayed and heartbroken by her secret, but love overcomes all boundaries?
Would he be straight all along, knowing her secret and teasing her just to make her uncomfortable before ultimately falling for the cross-dressing beauty?
We had a few variants of these two ideas over the years, but it wasn't until recently, when Kasa and I were driving back from a showing of Frozen, that true inspiration struck: the relationship didn't have to be romantic at all.
It fit so perfectly; Ash is wounded and recoils from anything she sees as a threat, including attraction and sexual tension.
Tommy....Tommy was again the problem. Is he gay and marrying her as his beard in order to please his parents? Is she his project? Would it be for the tax benefits?
No. No, it was not to be any of that. Those solutions were no solutions at all. We didn't want a hastily put together gift wrapped with newspaper and duct tape. No, indeed. We wanted a shiny, new present topped with a bow. It was this attitude that led us to decide the only way the two of them could be happy in a committed, non-sexual relationship would be through Tommy being asexual.
That, my friend, is how it happened. More or less.

Aaah, I see. :( How unfortunate for Ash! But understandable. It's good that she and Tommy end up together in their way.

"I didn’t know how to respond to that, so I didn’t."
^My favorite line.
I really enjoyed reading this! :D
Out of curiosity, is Tommy asexual aromantic, or is he bi/homo/heteroromantic?
