The long dining room table sat in dead silence.
“Now. The next person who has a smart-alek remark to say gets punched in the throat. Are we clear?” Akira paced the perimeter of the table like a hungry shark, pausing behind the chairs of the loudest members and resting her icy hands on their shoulders. “Like I was saying. I’m tired of seeing you good-for-nothings wasting your lives on video games, TV, and the internet. Especially tumblr.” With each item that she listed, the werewolf tightened her grip on her victims.
“Oh my glob. Don’t tell me you’re getting rid of the wi-fi.” Kateri broke the silence and slammed her palms on the table. “I will pay you--- no, I will personally write you a song about a lonely alpaca if you leave the wi—“ Akira cut her off mid-sentence.
“No Kateri, we are not getting rid of the wi-fi, but thanks for the idea. I’ll keep that in mind.” That revelation received collective groans from the filled seats at the table. “What I was going to tell you guys, was that Griffin, Sebastian, and I managed to snag some textbooks from a highschool that has already been let out on summer break.”
“Woo-hoo, let’s throw a party over salvaged textbooks.” Ela rolled her eyes and kicked her feet onto the table. “Get to the point.”
“What did I just say!” Akira gave a final squeeze on Vevila and Riley’s shoulder before moving dangerously close to Ela’s chair. “Feet off the table. You’re lucky I have better morals than abusing people, but don’t count on them lasting much longer.”
Sebastian stood up and motioned for his friend to sit. “What Akira was trying to say, is that we picked those books up for a reason. That reason being--”
“Summer school.” Griffin locked eyes with every person, as if challenging them on behalf of his girlfriend. No one moved an inch.
“We must be getting punk’d,” Alice whispered quietly to Ash.
“I heard that,” Akira growled. The clock ticked loudly behind all 30 of the gathered creatures. “If we want to show XL that we’re better than them, then we need to think better. Next time we meet I don’t plan on losing and that goes for all of you too.” Still no one moved. It hadn’t sunk in yet.
“Hello, someone say something so I don’t feel like we wasted our time.” Sebastian threw his hands up and looked to Akira for brute force.
“HEY! You lazy people better find you *sses here tomorrow morning at 7:15 or you have detention! Before you go, I’ll be giving you your partners for the classes you’re gonna teach. Got it?”
“But what if we don’t know the subject?” Solana raised a tentative arm.
“Then I suggest you learn real fast.”
The room erupted in a mass of clamoring voices and opinions over this. Griffin left a sheet on the table and quickly followed behind Akira, not bothering to check the list.
From his borrowed seat at the table, Tommy let out a humorless laugh and smirked. “This should be fun.”
