Day 1: Geography with Ela and Kuroshiro
“I still can’t believe I’m up before the sun.” Kateri sat in the front row of the make shift classroom. It was actually a miniature gym that had been turned into a sort of school for their desired needs. Somehow, the mysterious trio had gotten actual school desks and set them up during the night.
“Stop complaining, at least you didn’t have to study all night.” Ela glided in behind Kuroshiro and slammed her book on a large desk which served as the ‘teacher’s’ corner. A globe rocked unsteadily back and forth before coming to a rest at the edge of the desk.
“Uh, I think I have a question. Maybe. I’m not sure,” Ela’s brother raised his hand from the back of the class. “I can’t exactly see… Maybe it’s a human thing, I dunno, but if I switch places with Sleeping Beauty over there, I could probably see better.”
“I wasn’t sleeping, I was resting my eyes while I was counting the fifty countries of tortillas, which are native to…” The rest of Aerith’s words were lost as her head slipped back onto her arm and resumed sleeping.
“Uh-huh, my point exactly.” Tommy raised an eyebrow. “So I’m just going to move seats closer to my new friend, Ash.” Every other seat was taken except an extra one next to Ash. Those two would be seated in the front row next to Kateri, Bridge, and Alice.
“I could care less who you sit next to, just hurry up and do it before Akira comes.”
“Before I come and see what?” The werewolf dragged a hissing Locke into the gym. “I already clocked in a late one. Dish duty for two days. Now go sit next to Ash.” If Akira saw Tommy gaping at her, she ignored him entirely. “Now you two may begin.”
“Okay, I would like begin class by asking if anyone is familiar with the word terrain?” Kuroshiro held the globe in front of him and began spinning it slowly. “It is used to describe the many different kinds of Earth you may encounter when doing various activities. Someone name a few.”
Amor raised her hand but didn’t bother to get called on. “This is pointless, I’m too old for summer school and I already know what this crap is. Can I go?”
“Don’t even dream of it,” Akira glared at Amor.
“Then how come Sebastian got to skip?”
“He what.” An icy chill stole over the room.
“Yup. He waltz right in, told us that since he was the messenger for so long, he already knew everything there was to know about this terrain junk, and left. I think I should be allowed to leave too.”
Akira ignored everything beyond Amor’s first sentence and stormed out of the room, but not before leaving Griffin in charge.
“Awk—ward.” Violett chirped. She had moved her desk freakishly close to Nodin’s and was scribbling feverishly on his paper.
“Here, let me continue, Kuro. I’m a people’s person.” Ela grinned and everyone inwardly cringed. “Welcome to the reign of terror. The rules of staying alive in this class is to answer the questions right, but answer them wrong and you will feel the wrath of the sphere, I mean, globe. Nah, I like the sound of: The wrath-o-sphere.”
Amor snorted in contempt and folded her arms across her chest.
“So, if you think you’re so smart, what is the capital of Canada?” Ela pointed the WoS at Amor.
“Ottowa, you dork.”
“Wait! It’s not Toronto?” Kateri, who looked like she had downed more coffee than should be legal, turned around wide-eyed. “I put Toronto on all my quizzes. I’m going to fail.”
“We haven’t even taken a quiz yet, but you got the wrong answer anyways. It’s not Toronto--- SO YOU DIE!” Ela swooped down and hit the confused girl in the head with the globe. “Next question: If I’m standing in the Rocky Mountains, where am I not?”
“Oh pick me, pick me!” Violett waved her hand energetically. “You’re not in Kansas anymore!”
“I’ll accept that, small human. Next! If I take my spaceship at warp speed, but forget to take it off emergency brake, have I really gone anywhere?” Ela scanned the confused faces and selected Kaki. “You with the dangerous weapon.”
“You die.” Kaki fixed the front half of the room with a glare that haunted them for the rest of the day. Especially Kateri, who found that she couldn’t blink, due to the amount of coffee she had drank.
“Smart girl, she understands the theory of space brakes.” Ela nodded as if to herself, and was about to ask another question when Kuro rested a hand on her arm.
“Uuh, Ela, I’m not sure how any of this relates to what we studied yesterday. Perhaps if we consult the book…” The ghost boy spoke in soothing tones.
“Do I sense a disturbance in the force of my teaching rights? YOU DIE—nevermind, you’re dead already.”
“Awk—ward.” Again, Violett sang.
“How about you actually teach something?” Griffin sighed.
“How about you find a new classroom because in here--- YOU DIE!” There wasn't a chance for Griffin to block himself as Ela hopped over desks and swatted him in the head with the globe.
“Mu hahahaha! This is the ultimate weapon! Wrath-o-sphere---”
“Is now mine. Class is over, let’s get this mess cleaned up and forget this nightmare every happened.” Akira plucked the dented instrument of death from Ela’s hands and shoved it under her arm.
The clock in the house chimed 8:00 and Akira smacked her face with her hand. How were they ever supposed to make it through 13 more classes?
